PDR Slow- Hardware Question

After perusing the forums it is clear that since windows 8.1 many people including myself are having slow processing/ rendering issues with their software. My computer has an i7 processor, 32gb ram, graphics card and 4tb HDD etc etc. Despite having an updated system, my processing is mighty slow. For instance, when dragging a transition between clips to make the transition effect longer, I will experience lag in selecting/dragging one side of the transition, then the same for the other side of the transition. I have moved my PDR on my 2tb HDD and left my operating system on my 250gb SSD. I was concerned I didnt have enough free memory on my SSD, thats why I moved it.

My question: Could moving my files to the regular hard drive instead of my SSD have slowed me down? Also, should I buy a new SSD and use it only for using PDR?

Pre 8.1, this all worked very quickly. Afterwards, im losing faith that I can get back to quick editing. Its getting old enough to change software, but I like pdr.

Its getting old taking 3x as long to edit. Help please!

It's better in my experience to leave PD on the main C: drive SSD and just use your mechanical drives like the 2 TB and 4 TB as backup drives.

Ideally if you can use the SSD to store and edit the video files then output the final Produce file to the other slower drives that would be better. After you are done then Pack the Project files onto the slower drives for safe keeping and you can delete the used video files from your SSD to free up space for the next project.

See these two links on Project Management if you haven't already- they are what I consider a must see when using Power Director:

This is my setup, and i have a lot less room on my SSD than I thought. Its only 119gb, I thought it was 256gb. All I have on it is windows OS and a few small programs. Currently I edit on the SSD too. I archive to my 2tb HDDs. I have 42gb free on my SSD. Could this be the culprit?

After hitting google, I see windows 8.1 is about 40gb.... so I wonder why I only have 40gb of space remaining on my SSD. I ran space monger to see where my memory is being used and it all appears to be system files. I have NO music/ pics/ vids etc on it at all.

....hmmm

I do not know about how much space is need for Windows 8.1, but I do know that Windows 7 64 bit and all my programs take up nearly 200 GB of space.

I have my OS partition at 200 GB, I end up with about 130 GB of free space which varies all the time.

I used to think 40 GB was enough space for Windows and Programs. That is not true anymore.

If you are going to have a SSD drive, it had better be at least 256 GB.

W8, then 8.1, plus a dozen-or-so programs occupy about 35Gb here. The O/S exhibited occasional sluggishness when these files were on a 120Gb SATA drive though one would think the space that remained would be ample...

Interestingly, when that drive yielded to a 2Tb drive, performance improved overall. Nothing else was changed. Perhaps PD also benefited. Don't know what this says, but I mention it in passing.

Is 40gb of free space on my SSD enough to adequately run PDR11?

The other thing is that before 8.1 it was speedy as can be. Post 8.1 something changed. Perhaps this plays a bigger role than i suspect.

Not enough free space.

Specs for PD 12
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultimate/spec_en_US.html

Note the needed hard drive space.
If you do HD Video and BluRay disks PD requires about 60-100 GB of free space.

There have been reports of problems with Powerdirector and Windows 8.1, Windows 8.0 does not seem to have the same problems.

Installing Powerdirector on another drive does not solve the needed space on the OS drive.

Powerdirector always uses Windows space for its cache space.
