I run PD 12 under Windows 7/64, Intel i3 and 8Gb RAM with a ATI Radeon HD5770 graphics card.

Whenever I do any Importing Media function (mainly going to edit Audio with Wave Editor) I save the sound track OK and leave the Wave Editor OK and the importing Media display msg appears and often reads NOT responding but if a wait long enough it will eventually change to say 100% and return to PD 12. This can take up to 2- 2.5 minutes. Also the Importing Media msg box still stays on the screen although I can move it out of the way by the mouse. I would expect it to disappear.

Any ideas of what may be causing this problem

If you are importing files from external disposivos as external hard disk, card etc ... is common to do what you said.
If this is the case, always copy the files to a folder on your PC HD first, in PD12, import from this folder. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD
Windows 7-64 / PD16 Ultimate

GENERALLY it is when I wish to increase the volume of an audio trk on a video clip in the timeline. First I split the video and audio and then edit the audio with Wave Editor as I mentioned. Therefore the file that it is using is already on the hard drive and in the folder where all the source material is for the projects images sounds and videos.

In this case you should consider when opening WaveEditor from the timeline in the first place it will extract all audio of the video, even if you split and selected only part of the video.

I have used the latest Produce Range option to save part of a video or audio only, this case it's very fast, add new audio to video and uses WaveEditor to improve it.

Another method of increasing gain, in case you're unaware of it, is to move the pointer over a dot (keyframe) in the audio time line.
By default, there's a keyframe at the head and end of every clip.
When a dot turns read, hold the left mouse button and drag the line up. Each time the horizontal audio line is clicked a new keyframe will appear. Use the right-click button context menu to delete them.
