Is there any way to do this in PD7?

You can do it using overlay.
Here is how you do it
1. Record different clips of the same person speaking for 2 people as seen in the link
2. Insert the colour board in the main video track and stretch it to the length of clip
3. Insert one clip in the 1st overlay track.
4. Double click the 1st over lay clip
5. The PIP designer opens
6. click GRID option ( It is on the bottom right )
7. Resize to fit the left half of the screen.
8. Click OK
9. Insert 2nd footage in the 2nd overlay track
10. Double click 2nd overlay clip
11. Repeat steps 4 to 6
12. Resize to fit right half of the screen
13. Click OK.
This can be further improved by recording a back ground scene
Recording the actors against a "green screen"
Applying chroma key to remove the "greens" so that the back ground shows through
PC specs :

I don´t understand this way by only resize the videoclips.
I think you need a mask for half of the screen and a free focus-area

I make it at this time like this:
First I take the complete scene with on person on the left
Then I make a second scene by rotate the camcorder to the right with the second person and the axis in the middel of the set is in the second scene at the left boarder. I put the first scene on the main-track and the second on the overlay. In the bib-designer I shift it to the right.

Thank you, Georg - I guess I have to do it this way. I was trying to find a way to do it without moving the camcorder.

I wish to do also without moving, but then you need masks and at this time I find no way to create own mask for PD. Viele Gruesse Georg
