Running DVD menus on a USB storage device/DVD player

I want to create home movies recorded from a HD video camera and store/play them from a USB storage device on my DVD player
just the same as if they were burnt to a disk and then played on the DVD player.

I can produce a movie in AVCHD format and save the file to the USB drive. It will then play back on my DVD player perfectly.
Can I create a Menu for the movie and play it from the USB device the same as if it was burnt to a DVD?
I don't want to go to the extra expense of a blue ray burner and DVD's to get the HD results.

I have tried burning the movie and menu to file instead of disk in the Create a disk tool but although I can see the files
on my DVD player it can't play them like when they are on a dvd.

Does anyone know if this is possible as I would like to use menus on my movies.

Thanks

Hi,
A Video on a USB storage drive routed through to your TV, right? You want to add a menu. No.

Discs, BluRay and AVCHD/DVD with menus have additional files to enable the display to show up on your screen, from there you select etc.

Create a movie and play it via the root menu/default TV screen, is all you can do.

I may be wrong, this is my understanding of sourcing video from an externally attached drive to a TV.

I do not know (DVD Player) that runs with menu from USB Driver.
I have no way to play Video in HD (DVD Player) it was meant to play in SD (720x480) standard.
I have a better quality DVD playback using the HDMI output from my DVD player, but it is not HD quality, it upscaling which enhances the overall image.
Here in my TV Sony 46 best picture is the USB, Pen drive or card input, second is the BluRay player philips, BluRay disc, AVCHD DVD with menu or not, Pendrive I do not yet know how to make menu.

you need a box that can read files in the structure of a dvd or Blu-ray (for exemple, my Hyundai M-BOX R3150
can do that)

Hi,
Thank you for posting the information.

In the review I read the unit didn't impress the reviewer greatly and although it will play ripped DVD it wont play the menu's of a ripped BluRay. Data transfer to the internal HDD was not looked on fondly either and USB reading problematic.
For Blu-rays, only RIP files are compatible (copied files in a folder). Access to the menus is lost but soundtracks and subtitles are still available. http://www.digitalversus.com/media-centre/hyunda-m-box-r3150s-p8686/test.html

If it works for you that's good.

With editors recording camera footage as HD it would be far better for a presentation in High Resolution HD. The lower resolution of DVD is quite noticeable on wide screen TV's.

Just an opinion.
