I just updated my OS to Windows 8.1 (from Windows 7) and want to try out the PowerDirector v12. My question is : after installing the trial version, can I download templates from the DirectorZone and imporrt them into the program PowerDirector v12 to try-out new features ? Thanks...

Hi

Welcome to the Forum

I don't know to be honest.

Have you tried to see if you can?

Note that only 4:3 with display in a 4:3 project and likewise with a 16:9 project.

Happy editing Happing editing

Thanks, Jim & Cubby for your kind response and the link . Apparently, PowerDirector 12 trial version will not allow importing templates ( according your experience ) . Thank you for saving me lots of time tinkering in vain ...

Best regards & Best wishes for 2014

Hi tommyngo -

I don't think that's what Neil said. Like Neil, I don't know either... but I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to import templates from DZ.

It's certainly not listed as a limitation - http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/powerdirector-ultra/download_en_AU.html

Give it a try and see.

Cheers - Tony

Thanks ynofish for the encouragement : .

I finally DL the trial version of PowerDirector v12 . I tried to DL a few templates from DirectorZone but got the same fate as Jim's i.e. No problem with the DL . When I double-clicked on a .dzp file , it even opened and said the template was successfully incorporated in the program . I checked in the program workspace , I saw all the preloaded templates but not the new one !! .

I guess PowerDirector v12 trial version does not allow inports from DirectorZone ?

I wish someone from Cynerlink could confirm this issue .

Make sure, as stated, you are in 4:3 to "see" the downloaded templates if they are 4:3.
Same for 16:9 downloads, can only be seen in 16:9 timeline mode.
Also, be sure your library dropdown menu selections are set to "ALL", or "DOWNLOADED".
And...
Titles will only appear in the Titles library, PIPs will only be in the PIP library, etc.
You might be looking in the wrong place, or perhaps not seeing the full library. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Thanks for the input but I only work in 16 X 9 these days (and preferably in HD); so I'm very conscious of downloading only those types of Menus.

This is really odd behaviour for PD 12.

Any more ideas? Regards,

Jim

Hi

Can you both try this:

1. Make sure PD is CLOSED

2. Go to DZ and download a 16:9 template of either PIP, Particle or Text

2. Locate this file and Double Click - the message is something like "you have successfully installed....."

3. OPEN PD ensuring that the new project has an aspect ratio of 16:9

Your download should be in one of the following areas: PIP Room, Particle Room or Text Room in the Downloaded folder:

IF it is not there, then you have answered your own question. The the trial PD does not allow for template downloads.

-Jim- & tommyngo -

Something worth checking, if you can't locate your downloaded effects in PD (trial) is to go to C:\Users\Public\CyberLink. That's where effects downloaded from DZ are stored.

Check inside the appropriate sub-folders to see whether the menus, particles, titles etc are there.

The aspect ratio rule - 16:9 effects will only appear in a 16:9 project library - applies to everything except menus. Menus downloaded from DZ will be in both 4:3 & 16:9 projects (even though they may not "look" right).

Cheers - Tony

Thanks BarryTheCrab, neil & ynofish for your kind advices. I followed your tips but the situation remained the same : PowerDirector 12 (Trial) apparently did not allow importing downloaded templates from DirectorZone!

The puzzling issue is : a pop-up says the template has been successfully imported after I double-click on a .dzp file ! I saw the .dzp files in my PC but not the template in the PowerDirector working space !!

I wonder if this issue is specific only in Windows 8.1 ? Please comment .

It most likely has to do with the limits of the Trial version.

The Paid retail version of Powerdirector does a lot more things than the Trial version.

The Trial version is meant to let you have a look at the general functions of Powerdirector, not to be a replacement for the Paid retail version.
