Can I make an AVCHD disc from MTS files?

I want to take the files from my HD camcorder and make a disc that will play on my blu ray player. I hear that an AVCHD disc is my only option for burning regular recordable DVDs and having something that will play in my blu ray player and have HD quality. My camera records in MTS files. I have tried making an AVCHD disc with some trial versions of software online, but none of them play in my blu ray players, they say disc error. I don't have a blu ray disc burner. Will PowerDirector12 Ultra allow me to make an AVCHD disc from my MTS files and it actually looks like HD when I play it on my blu ray? I have found freeware that will let me make a disc from my MTS files, but the quality is nowhere close to being as good as the video looks on my computer or when played straight from my camera. I want to make discs to preserve my movies and to share with family. So before I throw down the money to buy PowerDirector I wanted to know if it will do what I want it to. Thanks.

I do not know if the Trial version will make a AVCHD disk. The Trial version is limited in the HD area.

There is another possibility, your BluRay player may not play AVCHD disks, check the Playable disks in the manual.
If that is the case you would need to buy a BluRay player that does support AVCHD disks.

Or, it may be lower cost to just install a BluRay Burner in your computer and burn actual BluRay Disks.

The Retail version of Powerdirector does a fine job of making AVCHD or BluRay Disks.
If your player does not support AVCHD disks you need a BluRay burner to make BluRay disks.

AVCHD is the only High Definition Disk format that you can burn to a DVD disk.

So, as far as the full version is concerned, it (powerdirector 12) should be able to produce AVCHD discs from my camcorder footage that will have HD quality and are playable on modern blu ray players. Is that correct?

Correct, no matter you want to output to Blu-ray Disc or AVCHD (could be on a flash drive or memory card). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PD12 records AVCHD DVD using the DVD burner, however as already said will only read BluRay Player or PC.
The only limitation is the time in video (1920x1080 fullHD) only 30 minutes DVD 4.7 GB.
I think there has been any change in the last update, the other day I put so'consegui 20 minutes DVD 4.7, now I checked and put 30 minutes. MTS 1920x1080 60i video

OK. So I bought PowerDirector 12 Ultra. I pulled in a 5 minute clip (MTS File) and produced it as an H.264 AVC. 1920 x 1080 60i. Then I burned an AVCHD disc. However, just like the freeware I found, it will not play in my blu ray players. I have a Vizio model VBR337 and a LG BD570 and the disc just gets ejected after it tries to load in the player. On the LG an "error" comes up as it is ejected. The disc plays on my computer with Power DVD10. So what am I doing wrong? I've spent the cash and still can't do what I want. Does the type of blank DVD matter? I am using DVD+R Memorex discs.

LG BD570: Does not play AVCHD disks.
Disc Playback Capability: Blu-ray™ Disc, BD-R/RE, DVD, DVD±R/RW, Audio CD, CD-R/RW

Neither one of your players can play AVCHD disks.

I said before to read your manual on your players to see if they can play AVCHD disks.

Not all BluRay players can play AVCHD disks. None of yours can.

Thanks, so it will spell out AVCHD then. I thought it might have been the format I was producing since they both say they can handle MPEG4 file format. I read the manuals and I thought since I was burning to a DVD+R that counted. When I look at file format it can read they both say MPEG4 as an option. I'm just trying to understand.

That's not true, my BD570 plays a AVCHD discs just fine. LG even lists it as a video content format http://www.lg.com/us/blu-ray-players/lg-BD570-blu-ray-dvd-player . Your list is the media capability, not the video format capability.

Please describe exactly what you did, it almost sounds like you produced a m2ts file in the "Produce" area of PD and then just how did you create your AVCHD disc?

Jeff

Yeah, I produced it as H.264 AVC on the produce tab. When I read the description it stated AVCHD compatible so I thought that is what I should use. I'm trying it right now from producing in MP4 and then creating an AVCHD disc from that. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Again, how did you create the AVCHD disc? Can you give me a few bullets of what steps you did in PD? You can not simply burn the m2ts files to DVD if that's what you did.

It appears they are all mt2s files on the finished discs. I uploaded the clip from the SD card into PD. I really did not edit anything just dropped it in the track. I then went to produce. The first time I produced it as h.264 AVC and then burned the disc as AVCHD. The second time I chose MP4 to do the producing and then burned the disc as AVCHD. But when looking at both discs they contain M2TS files. Not sure what I am doing.

Additional information: When I go to create disc, I choose the AVCHD format. I burned them at 1920 X 1080 60i. Then I hit burn disc.

Try to follow these step by step bullets and see if it will play in your LG.

1) Drop your clips into the timeline
2) Go to "Create Disc"
3) In the "Menu Preferences" tab find "No Menu" double click and apply to all pages
4) In the "2D Disc" tab, select AVCHD for the disc type
5) Select H.264, 1920x1080/60i for the format
6) Select "Burn in 2D" in the lower right corner

Your finished disc will contain a BDMV folder with several subfolders. Do you have this? If so, see if this created AVCHD disc plays in your LG.

So I should do this from the raw MTS files without producing it as anything? Dump from camera to timeline, do not produce, and go straight to create disc. I will give it a try.

Correct.... PD will convert any file to the proper format. You need to CREATE DISC and choose 2D / AVCHD. Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

I did like you said. Loaded the clip on the timeline, went to create disc, said no menu for all pages, selected AVCHD, selected the format you suggested and hit burn. I put the disc in my LG and got the same result. I put the disc in, "error" comes up on the little digital display, and the disc door opens back up. The disk has the BDMV folder. In the Stream subfolder the file is M2TS. Should I try the produced MP4 movie without the menu and see?

OK, so I took the clip that I produced from MTS files into a MP4 file and tried burning the AVCHD disc from that (no menu, 1920 x 1080 60i) and it still has the same result. It will not play. When looking at the disc on my computer and digging through to the stream subfolder it shows the file as an M2TS file. Is that the problem? Does the burning process convert the MP4 back to an M2TS when choosing AVCHD? Does the 60i mean anything versus the 24p option for 1920 x 1080? When you burn your AVCHD discs what files are in your folders? Are they M2TS?

I have the LG BD645 Bluray player. I have no problem playing AVCHD discs created with PD.

Yes, AVCHD will create .m2ts files no matter what file format you place on the timeline.

I checked the online manual for the LG BD570. See page 11 for playing AVCHD discs.
• Some AVCHD format discs may not play depending on the recording condition.
Hopefully , we can figure out why it isn't working for you.

But they should still play on my LG BD570 blu ray, right?
