I've been researching for a new graphics card, and as I read more in various forums, it seems that the primary application that you are using is a big factor in the selection of hardware specs... for instance, using Adobe Premier integrates nVidia cuda use in its software, so nVidia is preferred over Radeon. It would be nice to see something from the tech people at Cyberlink to throw out some recommendations on card considerations for optimal performance in different graphics card categories, such as pro, intermediate, etc.

These features could also talk about for instance, using 64 bit vs 32 bit OS and memory, using Haswell over other procs for H.264, how more video memory affects production, is bandwidth a factor in video editing... It's just overwhelming for a typical PD user who wants to optimize their system to research all of these factors... I find articles that seem interesting but are from 2010... 4 years ago, so are these still relevant?

So, as I blabber on, what are some good specs for a card in the $100-200 range and why?

Hi,
I use the GeForce 560ti 1Gb graphic accelerator (gaming card ) on an i7 2600
@3.4gh (sandy bridge) with no significant problems on a windows 7 64bit system. As for 32bit vs 64Bit the 32Bit system only recognize up to 4Gb memory whaere as the 64 Bit will accept almost any amount (depending on Motherboard specs.

I have PD11 and it uses my Radeon HD5550. According to AMD System Monitor, I've never seen it go over 25% of GPU usage though rendering different formats as a test. I'll be doing more tests when i get my new computer built next sometime next few weeks. All new CPU, mobo, RAM, SSD and Radeon HD7870. Will be interesting to see how PD utilizes the GPU. May upgrade to PD12.

I noticed you mentioned SSD drive make sure it is big enough as PD needs 100G free hd space for caching files.

I have all Window's temp folders set to a HHD - the largest and fastest SATA3 that I have. If any app has it's own Temp folder in Options, I also set that to the same folder. If PD is using a folder that I can't change, then perhaps I may reconsider purchasing PD12. yes,

PD12 uses the system disk for temp files during many operations, and if you are working in HD, then 100 GB free is necessary.

and yes, many users have suggested to Cyberlink to change that, but it must be buried hardcoded deep in the software and they would rather add features and kill bugs, then fix that minor issue (in their eyes not the poor user whose job freezes) RTX 2060 SUPER 8GB GDDR6

The 100 GB free space is necessary if you are burning a 50 GB Bluray disk. Less is needed for other operations.
It takes twice the space to create and burn a 50 GB Bluray disk.

Don't forget to check the power specs on any card you consider. Some of them draw more power than the entire rest of your system. Jerry Schwartz
