keeping things in sync after inserting a transition

I have a fairly long project with multiple tracks. I decided to add a transition between two video clips on the main track in the middle of the project. If I use the cross transition all the other tracks stay in sync but I really want to use overlap. However, overlap unsyncs all tracks to the right of the transition because it shortens the clips the transition bridges.
I thought I could maybe lasso all the tracks to the right and group all the clips together but the project is too long to lasso.

any suggestions.

Yes, that's the way it works.
Provided that the adjacent clips have excess video fore and aft, you could place them on separate video tracks and then drag/extend the end of the FROM clip and the beginning of the TO clip, to create an overlap of the two. Use opacity keyframes to fade down the FROM clip while fading up the TO clip.

Thanks, I had never thought of doing it that way.

I thought of another way but it is difficult because my project is about 90 min long. What if I could highlight all clips on all tracks that are on the right side of the transition and group them. Wouldn't that keep all tracks below the main track in sync with the main track even after adding a overlap transition? But to do this all clips of the entire movie must be seen in the timeline. When a 90min project is zoomed out enough so all clips in the project can be seen in the timeline they are too small to accurately lasso. Is there a way to lasso or highlight all tracks in a big project?
