The gremlins are still asleep and have let my reply through.
OK, so it is not a bug, it's a feature. I don't quite see the point but pressing on...
My modus operandi, then, is to complete all my editing before I try to Produce.
If I still need to change the movie after Producing it, I can either (1) assign a new name for the Produced file, e.g. movie2, movie3, then later clean up the old stuff from the folder or (2) exit out of PD12, delete movie1, go back in to PD12, make my changes, and re-create movie1.

I think it's important - a bug is a malfunction (that needs addressing), a feature (in this context) is just a "choice", perhaps of logic, process or appearance. I don't like the standard PD skin, but it's not a bug, it's just a choice. As it happens, in that case I can change the appearance, with some effort. Others don't know how or find it not so important.

Well, possibly, but I often produce many times before I am happy with my project. Admittedly, this does depend on the size and complexity of the project, but it is usually several times.

Or just re-enter the media library, remove (or delete - depending on your preferences setup) the movie1 file and re-produce the new edit. If you have just removed from the library, the standard "overwrite etc etc" dialog is triggered, if you have chosen to delete from disc then just choose movie1 again.
