Hello -- all I want to do is convert a mp4 file to dvd format that I can play in my dvd player --

When I add the mp4 file to the file(s) "create disk" screen and then to a "burn" one 0 length file is being written to the
"video_ts" folder ( I am not making a disk but writing to a file ) -- what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

First tries to add the MP4 file Edit to see how it behaves in the video timeline.
I usually add video files for editing, to produce MPEG2 file (DVD) finally in Creat Disco, add the files to MPEG2 AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

Basic steps to create A DVD from MP4 Video.

1. Import MP4 file to Powerdirector Library.
2. Drag the mp4 to track 1 on the timeline.
3. Click on Create Disk (On top).
4. 2d Disk > DVD (You may have to select 8.5 if your video is over one hour).
5. Menu Preferences (Pick a Menu) > Apply to All. Or take the one already in the preview window.
6. Bottom Right click Burn in 2D.
6a. Click Start Burning.
7. Wait to complete.
8. Try the disk in a standalone player to see if it plays OK.
9. Done.

"I am not making a disk but writing to a file"

which means your DVD player can play MPEG2 file directly? (via an USB flash drive?)
If it's true, you should go to "Produce" page, not "Create Disc". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello -- Thanks for all your suggestions -- but none seem to work .... When I dragged the mp4 to the timeline, It played but there must be an issue with the mp4 itself --

I was looking to simply make a a dvd with the std video_ts file structure

PD does things without explanation, what I suggested is to convert MP4 to MPEG2 (DVD HQ profile) Producer on save to file, *. Mpg, it is right to create your DVD without problems, folder (Video-TS)
In PD must activate patent MPEG2 and MP4, but I think it does not matter. this is done automatically when you add the first file with these formats (MPEG2 and MP4) on the timeline, to confirm.
If you have an MP4 file that very small sample can post here, we would do tests to try to find the error. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

fpe2fpe,

There is a standard for DVDs.

For a standalone DVD player to play a Video it must conform to DVD standard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video

Some new TV sets can play video from a USB Flash Drive. In that case you use a Video file format that the TV can play.

A DVD player you connect to your TV will only play DVD that meet the standard. The Country TV mode makes a difference.

PAL DVD will not play in NTSC DVD players. The reverse may be true also.
