Ok the videos are already mpeg2 and dvd standard settings as they came directly from a dvd. I extract the vobs from the dvd into mpeg2 with all the original settings and it still wants to encode the video even though its already mpeg dvd standard.
You do know that Powerdirector can handle VOB files directly. You can copy them from the DVD and edit them in Powerdirector.
If you do not want to convert the video twice, just copy the VOB files from the DVD to the hard drive. Them Import the VOB files into Powerdirector.
That way you will only re-encode no more than once.
As to the structure of a DVD only some to the VOB files are the Menus. The rest of the VOB files are the movie.
When you import all of the VOB files from the DVD you can see which ones are the menu. Powerdirector makes thumbnails.
You put the VOB files that are the Movie on the Timeline and leave the Menu VOB file behind.
Then in Powerdirector's Create disk you can use one of the default menus or modify one or create a new menu. Create a new menu is the hard way. Powerdirector is not good at creating new menus, there is lots of pitfalls.
Another option is download a menu from Director Zone.
