Preferences > General > Drop down at Timeline frame rate. You can choose Use drop frame timecode (YES) or (NO).

17.54 FPS is not a standard frame rate. You can safely ignore the warning.

Powerdirector will convert the strange frame rate to a standard frame rate when you produce a video.
It will add or drop frames to comply.

I have a question about PD's handling PAL vs. NTSC. The only place have found a setting is under Preferences -> General. The caption says that this setting is for the timeline. Is that where the burning module gets its information?

It seems that the only place you can check to see what you are going to getting in in the Preferences screen. It would be nice if the burning module at least displayed it. Since I've never produced anything but NTSC, it didn't occur to me to check that setting until I'd made a bunch of coasters.

The Produce module actually lets you change the frame rate and standard, country by country.

The TV format in Create Disk is governed by the TV Mode in Preferences > General.

What is set there is the TV mode that is created.

If you want to make a PAL DVD, your Preference > General must be PAL (25 fps).

If you want to make a NTSC DVD, your Preference > General must be NTSC (30 fps).

Yes, I know it is clunky. The programers at Cyberlink assumed that if you set your Country TV mode in Preferences, there was no need to be able to change in Create Disk.

The create disk module has another bad thing, it makes 24 fps Menus and what the TV Mode is. You can get around that by using "No Menu".

Some players choke on that combination.

It's particularly obnoxious that the caption refers to the timeline, not to producing or burning. As far as I understand it, the timeline itself is neither PAL nor NTSC. I don't know if the "TV Safe Zone" is affected.

I find many of the captions either awkwardly worded or outright mystifying. It all reminds me of the time I built my first computer from scratch. The documentation for the case included this little gem:

Perhaps it has changed in PD12, but in PD11 the reference is to "TV format" - not to the timeline...

Hi Jerry,
In Produce, flick through the File Formats and you'll note the "Country/video format of disc" drop down choice is available in some but not all. Some have default templates, chosen according to the Track frame rate you've set in Preferences. WMV is one of those with fixed templates while MTS and Mpeg4 offer a choice.

I have a similar problem. I'm using PD 15, and when I drag my video onto the timeline I get an error message that they are different frame rates. My video is 30fps and my project is also 30fps but I suspect that one of them is actually 29. (something).

When I render the project, it's fine, but while I'm editing it's difficult to see what's going on as the playback is all garbled.

Is there any way that I can sync the settings beforehand or get the edit playback to be smooth somehow?
