auto frame rate adjustment for DVD playback - set to 24p/hz instead of 30p/29hz
[Post New]
Is there a way to make PowerDVD automatically change the monitor refresh rate to 24p/23hz instead of going into 30p/29hz. I ask this because I use inverse telecine option with my Nvidia card. When turn on inverse telecine under "adjust video setting " tab in the Nvidia control panel and manually set my monitor's refresh rate to 23hz, I get perfect play back of film based progress DVD at 24p. I've attached a picture of the Nivida control panel to show what option I am speaking about. If PowerDVD sets my monitor to 30p/29hz then the benefit of inverse telecine is lost and I'm back to dealing with pull down frames again.

In PDVD13, go to Settings/General, and click the 'Reset "Never ask again" dialogs'.
Next time you insert a 24fps movie, the software will ask you if you want to change the refresh rate to fit the played back media, and give an option to make it permanent.
To revert this, just to the same manipulation again. My collection: http://www.blu-ray.com/community/collection.php?u=194008&action=showcategory&category=1&categoryid=7

Yes, that works for bluray discs but for DVDs it always changes my monitor to 30hz. When I am playing progressive NTSC DVDs I would like it to switch to 23hz.

It changes it to the frame rate of your DVD... if the DVD is 30fps, it'll change to 30hz. Unless there's a bug, of course. My collection: http://www.blu-ray.com/community/collection.php?u=194008&action=showcategory&category=1&categoryid=7

Every DVD I have changes to 30hz. I don't think PowerDVD knows and/or cares if the DVD's video is 24 frames or 30 frames interlaces. It just switches my screen to 30hz whenever it's an NTSC DVD. I haven't tried any PAL DVDs.

Kinda logical it changes to 30hz if it's a NTSC DVD... since NTSC is 30fps...

The software basically changes to the FPS of the source material. I'm in Europe (PAL), yet PDVD will switch my TV to 30fps if any NTSC source material is watched.

NTSC progressive DVD are encoded on the disc as 24 FPS. The pull down frames are added by the software. The Nvidia inverse telecine feature removes the pull down frames to restore the original 24FPS rate but PowerDVD is changing the refresh rate to 30hz instead of 24hz making he inverse telecine feature pointless.

Maybe you're problem is actually that NVidia "feature"... just disable it and let your display do the job? My collection: http://www.blu-ray.com/community/collection.php?u=194008&action=showcategory&category=1&categoryid=7

The Nvidia feature is not the problem because when I set the fresh rate myself using the control panel everything is working the why it should.
