I baught a new laptop and did not realize that it did not have fire wire port. It does have a HDMI port. So now I can't seem to download from my video camera (Canon VIXIA HV 30). I tried using a fire wire to USB connection but PowerDirecror does not recognize the camera.

Any ideas .. I hate to use my old laptop and then copy the project over to edit and use in my training programs.

fire wire to USB connection

Is that being recognized by the laptop itself? Any updates on this by the way?

You can use a 1394a firewire laptop adapter card if your new laptop has the slot such as this one: http://www.amazon.com/ExpressCard-1394a-FireWire-Laptop-Adapter/dp/B003N3J354
The reviews said it work for them.
