Hello members,
I seem to be having an issue with the snapshot function in PD12 build 2109.
All I get is the dreaded blue circle, then it stops, but no photo is generated (to my knowledge).
The only thing I tried was to disable CL and Hardware decoding.
NOTE: The function works fine in PD11.

Barry,
I could not duplicate your error.
I first used the Nature.wmv clip and took the snapshot with preferences set to .jpg and it worked as it should.
Then I loaded one of my AVCHD 1920/1080/60p clips and took the snapshot again set to .jpg and it worked as it should.
Then I changed the preferences to .png file type and repeated both test above. Same results everything worked as it should.
Open CL and Hardware Decoding are not checked in preferences.

Steve

Tiki_Dawg,
thanks for the test. I'm on a new machine and so far this is the only error.
I'll wait a little before I do the re-install of PD, just in case others have seen this, and if so, what was their course of action.

Hi Barry -

With pre-release versions of PD12, I had the same issue. The only way to generate a snapshot was to use the Freeze Frame feature. Oddly, others using the same build had no such problem

Once I'd purged the system & installed Director Suite 2, the issue vanished.

Cheers - Tony

Barry you breaking PD again?

Just did a quick test, snapshot works on my end.

I left my PD 11 Ult. Suite still installed and used the shiny new PD12.

I'm gonna muddle through, but I also need to un-install V11 as it's behaving oddly. God help me not screw up New Blue.
My new Phoenix came with an OEM Media Suite 10 CL bundle, and of course I installed my existing softwares to supplant the OEMs.
So...I create a project in V12, save, close PD.
Open project PDS with double-click and it tries to open it in V11!
It tells me it was created in a newer version of PD and won't open.
That, on top of SNAPSHOT, I guess a re-install is warranted.

Barry,

Right click your .pds file.

Then select "Open With" and "Choose default program" at the bottom of the window
choose PD 12 instead of 11

This should force it to play nicely.
(Also a very handy thing to remember in case other prgms get outta hand.)

Rob

PS- as for NewBlue - here is a workaround / fix, see page three for Tony's and my post: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/30019.page

Barrythecrab,
Reinstall PDR12. If you have the DS2 build you'll need to select wisely what needs to be reinstalled. DS2 will uninstall/reinstall any you duplicate on your system.

There are a number of strange bugs that have shown up due to a poor installer. Make sure you don't possibly mess up the install with background running programs.

Best of luck.

I have v11 & 12 on my new machine.
I will disable Norton.
My backups should include...New Blue (of course).
What else should I copy for safe keeping?

They should fix the installer, faulty installers do not breed confidence in the user population. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Hi BarryTheCrab,
You've covered it... it's a random problem as far as I can tell and could affect another part of the install.

Count me in. Same problem here. No snapshot in PD 12, but 11 works fine. What gives?!

OK, Freeze Frame is a workaround, but it produces a sepia effect with "My Title" inserted (which can't be altered, BTW!!). Don't ask me where the sepia effect and "My Title" come from (PD just does it) and I have to undo everything and have my snapshot.

A very buggy program so far, I must say, my dear programmers. Thank God I kept my PD 11.

Hi Barry,
I am on a Windows 7 Premium 64Bit system running PD12 Ultimate 2109 (not the suite) and have no issues with capture.

Not that it helps but just so you are aware it may be a system glitch on your end. By the way I am running the latest Nvidia geforce driver 331.58

Yes it can - in Preferences...

This "random problem" which affects some installations & not others should be investigated and sorted. As stated above, the same installer can produce different behaviours on different PCs. The cause needs to be determined.

As a side-note, my installation of PD11 (Director Suite 1) is stock standard and has never been able to produce a single thing in the timeline using Magic Style or Magic Movie Wizard... even after repeated uninstalls/re-installs. I was using exactly the same installer as many others. I don't have a clue why! Just like the Snapshot issue we're discussing now. Wobbly!

Cheers - Tony

I also have this error here.
Had already forgotten, remembered today when configured to remove the box that asks you to confirm the capture.
I went back to enable confirmation of photo capture of video.
