Powerdirector can edit .MOV files and MP4 files.

From the Help in Powerdirector 12.
Importing Media Files

If you already have video, audio, and image files that you want to use in your production on your computer's hard drive, you can import the files directly into CyberLink PowerDirector's media library in the Media Room. You can also import media files that are on a removable device.

Note: if you import media files that are on a removable device into the media library, they will be removed if the removable device is disconnected. For best results, it is recommended that you copy the media to your computer's hard drive before importing.

CyberLink PowerDirector supports the following file formats:

Image: Animated-GIF, BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF

3D Image Format: JPS*, MPO*

CyberLink PowerDirector also supports the import of the following camera RAW image formats, which are then converted to JPEG once imported: ARW (SONY), CR2 (Canon), DNG (Ricoh), ERF (Epson), KDC (Kodak), MRW (Konica Minolta), NEF (Nikon), NRW (Nikon), ORF (OLYMPUS), PEF (Pentax), RAF (Fujifilm), RW2 (Panasonic), SR2 (SONY), SRF (SONY)

Video: 3GPP2, AVI, DAT, DivX**, DV-AVI, DVR-MS*, FLV (H.264), HD MPEG-2, M2T*, MKV (H.264), MOD*, MOV, MOV (H.264), MP4, MPEG-1*, MPEG-2*, MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), MTS*, TOD*, VOB*, VRO*, WMV, WMV-HD, WTV*

Note: ** to enable, you must download the DivX codec online. Available on Windows 32bit only.

3D Video Format: Dual-stream AVI, MVC*, Side-by-Side Video*, Over/Under Video

Audio: M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA

Note: * optional feature in CyberLink PowerDirector. Check the version table on our web site for detailed versioning information.

To import media into CyberLink PowerDirector, click and then select one of the following options:

· Import Media Files: import media files individually.

· Import a Media Folder: import the entire contents of a folder that contains the media files you want to use in your current project.

Note: you can also drag and drop media onto the CyberLink PowerDirector window to import it into the program.

Hi Jerry -

My understanding is that Apple ProRes 422 was developed for editing in FCP. It supports 4K & is optimised for editing rather than playback. There's a ProRes White Paper here http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/resources/

PD11 will import ProRes files. I just tested with a sample clip from http://www.sounddevices.com/products/pix220i/sample-files/

The audio of the particular clips I chose (the 1st & 4th ones on that page) played back in PD as a flat 207Hz tone (according to my guitar tuner).

MediaInfo report attached.

Cheers - Tony

Hi ynotfish, thanks for the info, I downloaded one of the ProRes files and imported it into PD12.

It worked! video was great (216MBPS) but, as you mentioned, audio was a flat tone.

Just wondering if the audio was recorded that way in ProRes, or if the audio playback is a problem associated with PD12.

Thanks again for you help, Jerry

PowerDirector does not support 10 bits color depth so far, so neither ProRess422 MOV and MXR. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi folks,

I am considering which 8mm film conversion service I might use. Some shops like the ProRes 422 format you're discussing, like here: MyMovieTransfer

If you scroll down this page you'll see "1080p High Definition Example files". I downloaded the Rolls Royce one (1080p_Rolls.mov) and, while it will load into PD11 and you can even play it on the Edit view pane, if I drag it down to the timeline, it crashes PD11 every time.

Would anyone else mind checking this for me - am I doing something wrong?

I would like to know if I can use ProRes MOVs from these services (if PD11 can handle them). I notice you've been talking about PD12 Ultimate, not PD11.

Thanks if you can help!

Tested the "Rolls" clip here, and there was no crash when it was added to the PD 11 time line. Heard no audio.

Also tested clip, no crash in PD11. No audio associated in timeline, shows only video. I used Media Info on the file and really didn't see any audio data listed. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks everyone, it must be something on my end then. Fortunately I will be moving to a new PC soon, but meanwhile I know PD11 should be able to work with ProRes 422 (HQ) MOV files (and I can use a transfer service with that format).

Thanks, all! Now I know.

Keep on NLEing,

Mike
