Simple Fade To Black

Hi. I just upgraded to 12 and it's been a while since I used it. There are all sorts of fancy transitions, but all I want is a simple fade to black at the beginning, end, and between clips. I can't find that. Can someone point me to a section of the docs where that is covered.

Thanks,

Dan. Director Suite with PD11

Hi Dan,

There are few ways to do that. But perhaps the quickest/easiest way is to use the the Fade In/Out option in PIP Designer, and then add or set a gap at your desired duration.
Here’s a quick video example/tutorial that might help get you started.

Cranston,

Thanks for the quick reply. This is very helpful.

Unfortunately, I'm getting the "PDR12.exe has stopped working" error so I can't check this out.

Another approach.

When transition default behavior is defaulted to CROSS (Options|Editing) a FADE transition between clips can be placed at the end, between, or at the start of a clip - for a fade out, cross fade, or fade in, respectively. So...

Open the transition room (the lightning bolt icon at the left), choose All Content and locate FADE.
You can add it to My Favorites by dragging it to that folder.

Drag the FADE to the head of your video clip, whether that clip is the first clip or a clip that's later in the timeline.

Now drag the FADE to the end of video clip/s.

To increase the black duration between clips, drag the clips apart (at the cut point), to create a gap between them.

To change the FADE duration, click on the transition block. Then place the pointer at its end point, if it's a fade IN transition ... or at its start point, if it's a fade OUT transition. The pointer becomes a two-headed arrow. Drag the transition border left or right to make the trans length shorter or longer.

dan_public123, this is what I want to do to, and NOTHING tells you how to insert a simple soft beat between clips...just fast fades or cheesy effects...

Anne, you will have more luck if you start a new thread with an appropriate title. __________________________________
