Installing an upgraded version of PD12

I currently have PD 11 Ultra installed on my machine. I'd like to upgrade to PD 12 Ultimate and pay the upgrade price and not the full price. If I uninstall PD 11, will PD 12 install correctly? Or do I have to install 12 on top of 11?

Thank you

Leave 11 installed for now.
Purchase and then download the 12 upgrade and install using the key/serial CL gives to you.

After you verify everything works as it should, then you can go ahead and uninstall previous version.

I know I can upgrade but if I do can I install PD 12 on a different drive than PD 11 and be able to run either?

I have some projects I am working on in PD 11 and don't want to lose my work.

Well I upgraded to PD 12 yesterday I installed it on my C drive I have 11 installed on to. I just went down and open a project file from 11 in to 12. It loaded it just fine. It was one I did back last April of the Indianapolis zoo. Title and transitions work where I had the picture spinning in it.

Are we talking apples and oranges here?
When I hear "upgrade", I think back to when I bought the version 10 ADDON for PD9. Just buying the V10 patch meant I had to keep v9 installed, and if I wanted to do a re-install I had to go through a bunch of hoops to do it.
Now I just buy the full, but discounted versions, no patch.

Generally when upgrading: it is always best to keep the previous version installed. Some programs will ask you if you want to keep the old version when upgrading. (I find PD doesn't do this so you can have the older version still installed alongside the new version.)

Cyberlink differs in that the trial version cannot be made into a full version. (I thought it could- but you have to d/l and keep the full version as well as upgrade versions just to be safe. And always make sure to register within a couple weeks ! Otherwise you might have issues.)

Once you are a registered user then you can uninstall and re-install whenever.

I had to re-do my main drive a few months ago... and had to figure out the above real fast in order to get my CL prgms working again.

Last year I upgraded from 10 to 11. A few months later my C drive went bad. I put in a new hard drive loaded win 7 and was able to install PD 11 with out install PD 10. Intel i7 5960X overclock to 4 Ghz 16 GB of ram.

Hi to all in this thread. My concern was answered. I completely uninstalled PD 11 Ultra and installed the upgrade version of PD 12 Ultimate without a hitch. So I guess the answer is, it doesn't matter if an earlier version is installed or not. Sometimes the term "Upgrade" can be confusing to those who have experience with Microsoft Operating Systems where upgrades usually can't be installed as a fresh or new install.

Thanks to all who responded. PowerDirector 17, Ultimate 64 bit.

Hi Atreyu,
You may just be lucky. Often a new release version comes out before the "upgrade" and those that buy the upgrade get the full build. This may be the case for you. If during the installation (and after you uninstalled PDR11) you were asked for the activation key of the older build (PDR11) then you have an upgrade. If you weren't and only input the PDR12 activation key, you have a full build.

Hi Dafydd.

I was asked for the new activation key and not the old so I must have the full version. Thanks again. PowerDirector 17, Ultimate 64 bit.

I purchased 'upgrade' from PD 10U to PD12U and PD10 was uninstalled with out asking and I had to enter the PD12 product key so I have the 'full build'. Furthermore, I keep getting the message that I 'must be connected to the internet' when I try to register at startup of PD12. PD12 does not show in my product list. Any suggestions on how to correct this and get PD12 registered with Cynerelink? AMD FX8350 8 CORE, 16GB, Win 10 Home Prem 64-bit, GTX 1050 2GB, 250GB SSD, 1TB Hitachi SATA 2, PD16
