Higher Quality MP4 Needed

I have slightly edited a MP4 (720p 30fps 6mbps) but PD renders the output MP4 at (720p 30fps 2mbps) no matter how high I set the bitrate in the Produce section. How do I get the output MP4 to be 6mbps just like the source or at least close to it?

Have you tried intellegent SVRT? What is the source of the video clip? Which profile are you using to produce? __________________________________

I've tried the 1280x720/30p (9Mbps) MP4 profile and I've created many custom MP4 profiles with increasing bitrates.

When I use Intelligent SVRT, it suggests the default 1280x720/30p (9Mbps) MP4 profile but the apply button is greyed out.

All of the different options I've tried essentially create an MP4 of the same size and quality 1280x720/30p (2Mbps). Size ~160-200MB.

The source MP4 came from my Sony HDR-CX380 camcorder recorded at 1280x720/30p (6Mbps). Size = 450MB. PD Version: 12

You can do a custom MP4 1280x720 at 6 Mbps.

Click the Plus (+) beside the profile name.

The higher the bit rate, the larger the file will be.

Correct. I've used bit rates all the way up to 26 Mbps and the rendered MP4 still comes out at ~ 2Mbps. PD Version: 12

Can you provide a short clip, up to 5 seconds? You could set a constant bitrate. Then it should produce to whatever you specify. __________________________________

I've attached two 720p 29.97fps MP4 video clips. OriginalClip.mp4 was recorded with a bit rate of 6Mbps. I trimmed off 2 seconds then produced it as a 720p 16Mbps MP4. This resulted in a MP4 with a bitrate of only 4Mbps (RenderedClip.mp4).

What must I do to make a rendered file match the bit rate of the original file?

Sjamie I don't know what is going on with your PD 11. But I download your clip. I produce it in mpeg4 I use the default profile for 1280x720/30p (9Mbps) and hit the + and set the bitrate to 6000. Here is the clip I got. It came out at Data rate 6161Kbps and total of 6330 Kbps. is what windows is telling me.

Here is the one I produce.

I had a similar issue and gave up trying. No matter what settings or profiles I created, PD11 always produced MP4 using variable frame rate, variable bitrate. I've tried Carl's idea with no success and can't find a way to set constant frame rate or constant bitrate. Regardless of my custom profile bitrate settings, PD11 produces something much lower. Yeah, yours came out perfectly. I'm not doing anything different from steps you took.

Do you have these same options checked in Settings?
  • General -> Enable HD video processing (shadow file)
Hardware Acceleration -> Enable hardware decoding
Produce -> Reduce video blocky artifacts
Produce -> Reduce video noise when using MPEG-1, MPEG-2, H.264 software encoders

  • Have any other options checked that I may not? My computer is not very strong for video processing so many options like SVRT are greyed out.

My original 400 MB files are consistently reduced to under 200 MB after rendering. This is quite frustrating and I'm getting the same results with PD 12!

I was advised in the past to not enable shadow file. I have never had an issue with bit rates. Try unchecking that feature and see what happens. Asus Maximus Exreame-Z

Produced using SVRT I got just slightly higher bitrate, just over 6400 compared to original just over 6000. Switching to hardware encoding I got 4711 and using no fast video rendering, CPU only, I got over 9000kbps. I made no edits, so that may also effect the final result. __________________________________

Upgrading from the trial version to the full version of PD fixed my issue. YEAH!!!

It would have been very helpful if "reduced quality of output files" was listed on the trial limitations page.

I've decided to further upgrade to PD12 and all is well.

Thank you to everyone who chimed in on this issue!
