I had a lot of Smartsound files on my previous version of PowerDirector. On installing I totally deleted the previous version...... then I realised I had a lot of smart sound files on there! Luckily I had, some time ago, saved what I thought were the libary files etc just in case

Now I realise I dont know where to put these files in PD11. I can guess but it would be easier, quicker etc If someone would be kind enough to tell me. The file extensions I have are

.SDS
.BLX

and a lot without just says 44k on the end.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thanks Thanks!!

I can now answer my own question.

.blk go into Encoding
.sdi go into Libiary
.sds go into Soundfiles.

I had made I note that I did not spot.

This may be usefull for future users.

So a question I cannot answer myself, at the moment. Is it possible to take a MP3 file and make it so it can work on Smartsound?

???? Thanks!!

The folder of smartsound files is here:
C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc

There are several folders:
Encoding
Libraries
News
Previews
Sound Files
Sound Files Hits
Sound Files Modified
UpdatePacks

The best method I would to goto SmartSound.com and Install the pack there.
http://www.smartsound.com/support/updates?product=cyberlink

I would recommend that you download the full installer. 204 MB.
Download Full SmartSound Quicktracks 5.1.8 installer and Common Data Installer (204mb)

It contains the software and the regular free music track.

The update 30 MB is just the engine with no songs.

If you have custom songs that you purchased.
You can update them from within the Smartsound module after it is installed.

No.

You can use MP3 audio files in Powerdirector, but it is usually a good idea to convert MP3 to WAV.

You can use any supported sound file in Powerdirector on any of the Sound tracks.

Hi simonuk -

Between you and Carl you already have the information you need to get SmartSound functioning again. Just thought I'd share this.

Now - I have a pretty decent sized SmartSound collection (about 60 albums), not that size matters. It does matter if something goes wrong and I have to re-install!

What I do is keep a backup copy of the whole C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc folder.

Recently I got a new PC, dedicated to editing. Rather than re-install my whole collection I just replaced the existing folder with my backup (containing all the libraries & sound files). Easy!

As Carl explained, regular music files cannot work like SmartSound. Of course you can edit them, but you can't say "OK music - go for 2 minutes exactly" and hope for anything good!

Cheers - Tony

Smartsound is not working in my PD11. I have used it before but when I try to use it now I cannot add sound clips to the sound track.

I have no files in the C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc\Sound Files folder.

I downloaded and installed the Full SmartSound Quicktracks 5.1.8 installer and Common Data Installer (204mb)
but still have no files in the sound files folder.

what am I doing wrong?

Have you tried rebuilding the smart sound library?

In Powerdirector click Magic Music. When the Smart Sound interface come up, Click "Smartsound" button, on the About Tab click Rebuild Database.

After I upgraded to PD12 I sought advice on the forum about transfering smartsounds over to the new version. I followed the advice and it worked. This was what feels like ages ago now, the memory is not exactly fresh.

I now have my smart sounds/music in PD12. I can click on the selection, preview it I can alter the volume etc and drag the music down into the timeline. It automatically adjusts to the length of the clip. Great............... except...

The time line is straight and no sound/music is produced. The line has no waveform. It worked fine in PD11. The music I have on file is complete. It is not a sample. I can drag it onto the timeline, unlike the samples.

What am I doing wrong?

Frankc1,
Although this is a Smartsound thread, you question is quite different. I wonder if a new thread is warranted here.
However...try another SS sound file from a different SS album.
You can also place a sound file (SS or normal, but here we want SS) in a timeline and and export it in PRODUCE as a sound file on it's own. See if that works.
Last, could you supply a screenshot of your timeline?

EDIT:
I find that Smartsound is bringing my powerful PC to a near halt, so I have been forced to use SonicFirePro to add my timeline music. I have always had SS slow down my editing, since Version 8 of PD, but now it's worse than ever.
