Hi guys, I am having real trouble here. Everything works fine on PD11 Version 11.0.0.3026. Except when PD tries to import MP3 or WAV files. It will not even download its own sample file Tram.wmv.

Things I have tried. Completely uninstalling then re-installing. Downloading latest updates and patches. Installing latest Codecs. A bunch of other things I cannot recall at the moment. Done registry error searches etc. Spent 2 days trying to fix this and had no reply from support.

Would really appreciate some guidance help here. The message I get when it fails to download :-

"An error occured when opening this media file when in the media libary. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content, or for another reason. Try contacting your video provider for a different format." It then gives the address from where it tried to import from.

The files play on media player etc. Not locked protected etc. As I said before it also will not import its own Tram.wmv media file.

So any ideas suggestions please. No reply from 'support' yet. Thanks in advance. Thanks!!

Hi Simon -

A similar issue was raised a while back. Like you, the user was getting the same error alert even when trying to insert the "Tram" sample clip (and other videos in AVC H.264).

Unfortunately, there was no resolution to the issue because the whole thread was removed... so we can't refer to it now.

PD should be able to import MP3s, WAVs & its own sample clips (!) without error. It does here, but clearly there's some issue with particular set-ups.

I don't know if it will help but could you attach one of the audio files you're trying to import (MP3 will be smaller)?

Cheers - Tony

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

I think this is a software design issue. It's thrown up a problem that Cyberlink cannot resolve. Just had a reply from 'support' and I am frankly disappointed. They suggest putting in the latest downloads/patches/updates. Which I have already done.

I had pd10 on my other laptop and it worked fine. I put pd11 trial on that one and now even pd10 has the same problem!

There is nothing wrong with the files I am trying to import. Tried all sorts of sizes etc and its just the .wav .mp3 bit it does not like. As I said before it does not even like its own tram.wav file.

Sorry to say it but I think I will give up on this software. Shame. Its been good in the past.

As a footnote let me say I have come across lots of others with the same problem. But as soon as cyberlink see it on their website it 'disappears' so expect this topic to vanish soon.

But thanks again for your reply guys!! Thanks!!

Hi Simonuk,
FYI CyberLink don't remove posts on this forum, I do! Such removals are not due to an issue being unresolved or because viewing is uncomfortable for CyberLink!

Hi Simonuk,
You have a problem.
1. Tram.wmv is not a WAV file it is a video file.
2. You were asked to provide a sample of the mp3 you're having problems with. Can you do that? If not how can members replicate your issue?
3. Have you used MediaInfo as shown in Part J in the guide: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24771.page Please provide the information on the mp3 file.
4. Tram.wmv what exactly is the problem with this for you... Please go to C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector11\SampleClips and look up either PAL or NTSC and play the video file in Media player.
5. Have you gone to the Control Panel and uninstalled PDR11, Wave Editor and QuickTime? Do so. then reinstall PDR11, activate the software and then apply the latest patch.
6. Please provide a full diagnostic of your computer for analysis, see guide (link above) Part A & B please.
7. A screenshot of your project content - Edit Workspace. Guide E & F please.
8. While this might appear to be a codec issue as the error message indicates a source file issue. The issue is more likely to be a corrupt installation or some form of corruption on your system which is causing the problem. as you are only dragging and dropping files into the tracks this is likely to be a install issue. The confusing issue here is your referral to the Tram.wmv as wav.
