Hijacking media file associations

I hate it that PowerDVD 13 automatically sets all my media file associations to itself. Please make that optional in the next patch so I don't have to re-do all my associations again!

can you please explain what you meant by this? Saving using one single file?

Did you go to Setting/Player/Advanced/File Associations and uncheck those that you don't want to automatically open with PowerDVD?

I don't remember how I set mine up but it seemed to work for me; I'll have to check although I know that my NEF image files (and others) do not open in PowerDVD but in the image editor that I chose.

Ignore jamestroy, I think he may be practicing his English (unsuccessfully). Sorry if this is not correct jamestroy.; your post sometimes just don't seem to relate to the question being asked. I know that some people will post that I should be more tolerant but the answers often create confusion that should not be there. .

When I install or re-install PDVD13, it automatically grabs the associations for all media file types. Yes, I can go in afterwards and uncheck the file types, but I still have to re-associate the media files with the programs I want to use to open them.

How often do you install or re-install PowerDVD 13.? If you do it frequently, then you may have other issues. I don't remember PowerDVD hijacking all the files extensions. That may may not have been an option. I'm pretty sure that is had to go into the settings and selectively choose which files to open with the program. That is where it is fuzzy. I really don't remember but I know that I did have to select which ones.

Perhaps someone else will remember. .

Just installed a PowerDVD 13 update, shouldn't have done it, as described by the OP above, PowerDVD 13 grabbed all sorts of media file associations WITHOUT asking. It is bad enough when this happens on a new installation, but it is even worse when it happens just for an update. The installer should ASK whether the user is happy that PowerDVD wants to play all those file types. I only need PowerDVD to play DVDs and perhaps Blu-Rays, nothing else.

I had the same problem on a v13 update - hijacked the lot !
VERY VERY annoying Cyberlink - are you reading this ?
This behaviour is commonplace with a lot of apps like Nero, Winamp, Real etc.
It simply should not exist ! It's a simple user question asking for association changes to be permitted or present a list of current ones.
Forget an upgrade to v14 unless this age old hassle is fixed !
I'd suggest everyone take screencaps of file associations sorted by application handler making it a lot easier to put things back if needed.
