Expect odd behavior, such as clip or timeline (movie) video of some file types that play as a black screen or freeze frame.

I knew I shouldn't have done this! All my video files preview as a black screen. Argghhh! Good thing I'm not paid to produce videos!

Preview? You mean, from the timeline? If so, try this. Use caution: incorrect entries can adversely affect Windows.

Right-click the START button, then click RUN.
Type this (no quotes) "regedit"
Click OK.

Click on the small right-facing arrow to the left of the word COMPUTER (at the top of the window) so that five sub-folders are shown.
Continuing in the left hand column, use the same tactic to reach the following key...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/CYBERLINK/POWERDIRECTOR11

Single left-click the PowerDirector11 folder. Many entries should appear in the right hand column.
Use the scroll bar to scroll to the bottom of that column.

Double-click on the entry titled VideoRenderer.
In the "Value Data" field you will see VMR7 selected (highlighted).
Change that value to VMR9.
Click on OK.
Click the red X at the top-right of the registry editor to exit.

Report results here.

Thanks, I'll do the regedit tomorrow and see how it goes... I appreciate the thought.

I decided I couldn't wait until morning and gave it a go. It worked perfectly.

Again many thanks! I can have fun again!

Terrific! This worked for me too even though I'm running PD8.
