question about usings fades and problem with menu

Hi I'm using XP windows 8 and editing files that were originally shot on a Sony camcorder in ACHVD. I have 2 problems and would be grateful for any help since I am new to video editing.

First problem: We have footage is of a choral concert and are trying to splice together 2 shots--one from the the front and the other from the side for each of the songs. Some of the splices within each song look rather abrupt so we are trying to use PD11's fade to make these transitions nicer. The problem is that the audio gets garbled and then it's out of synch with the video. Is there any way around this or is the fade meant to be used only between songs?

Second problem: We are trying to create menu options so that the user can either play the entire concert or do scene selections. This works well when the DVD is played on our PC, but we cannot get to the second page of scene sections to choose from when using the TV. However we can get it to jump thru the chapters by using the remote. Ideally we'd like to have it be selected on the screen. Any idea of why it works on the PC and not the TV? Any suggestions on how to remedy this? We cannot fit more than a few songs/screen so trying to get all of them on the first page is not an option.

Thanks to all of you for your help!
Roxanne

If OVERLAP mode is the default for transitions, this will occur. Click the ? in the upper right-hand corner, click SEARCH FOR HELP TOPIC, then type "transition" into the box. Click on the TRANSITION BEHAVIOR item for an explanation of how they work.

You want the CROSS FADE default, which can be set in PD by clicking the EDIT|PREFERENCES menu, then the EDITING item.

You may get better results by laying down the audio track first, then disabling it and applying video transitions only.

Hi Roxanne,

In addition to the Borgus' suggestion perhaps this will help:

Any questions just ask. Others more knowledgeable about your Menu issue should be able to chime in shortly.

Rob

[Edit- aha ! finally got the youtube embedding feature to work. It did not like "https" so had to change the url to begin with "http" instead.]
