Hi Lukas -
I'll allow more technically astute members to delve into frame rates and the difference between 30fps & 29.97...fps, and how to set your PD preferences. Anything I'd say would only add to the confusion & misinformation about frame rates.
Like many other forum members & PDusers, I have that confirmation unchecked. I know what I'm importing. We've had PD users get false alerts when inserting clips. As stated above, it's the produced file that matters.
If you have Shadow files enabled in Preferences, PD generates low res (720x480 MPEG-2) copies of your imported clips. This decreases the load on your PC during editing. In production, PD uses the original high res clips.
Again, most editors with capable PCs have the shadow files option
disabled.
If you have shadow files enabled and your clip is in the timeline, the preview window is showing the low-res version (not the original). Obviously the quality of the image is decreased!
I've only ever used FRAPS to test other members' problems using FRAPS captures in PD, but it consistently records at the frame rate I set.
If your FRAPS settings closely match your production settings, you should get a good finished product.
Cheers - Tony
