I try to use Newblue Colorfast, plugin compatible with PD11. See picture 1.

With version 130208 (the downloaded version after purchase), I can see this plug-in included in one of the video essential pack. And when opening Newblue ColorFast, it’s not possible to choose for the settings (see picture 3). The names of the different settings are always the same.

I verify if there is an update for Newblue Colorfast. There is one -130408.
I downloaded it and installed.

And now, there is no more anything about Newblue Colorfast in PD11. (See picture 5).

Has anybody used this plug-in in PD11? Have I missed something?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jean Paul -

I don't have the NewBlue ColorFast effect, but I'm familiar with the Essentials I, II & III packs.

To test your issue I downloaded and installed the trial version (same) of NB ColorFast... http://newbluefx.com/product/colorfast - it is not part of Essentials I-VI but a standalone effect. The version I installed is 130408.

Now - even though
(a) it's compatible with PD11 according to http://newbluefx.com/product/colorfast#compatibility
(b) it went through the installation process as expected
(c) some of the installed files are in the expected location - C:\Program Files (x86)\NewBlue\ColorFast for Windows
- N.B. there is also a ColorFast.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\Shared files\Plugin, which is not consistent with the installation of other NB effects.

The ColorFast effect does not appear in my Effects Library.

My guess is that there is something not quite right with the 130408 installer.

Cheers - Tony

It's in there listed under "Visual" effects as IDS_DSP_Vi_NEWBLUE_...

You won't be able to use the effect like it is. You can't tell which parameter is which as they all begin IDS_Vi_Param_NEWBLUE_C Gateway DX4380, AMD A8-5500 Quad Core 3.2GHz with ATI Radeon HD 7560D; 16GB RAM; 1 TB SATA 7200 RPM; Windows 8 Pro 64-bit; PDR11, PDVD12.

Hi Tony,

Many thanks for your test. This is the confirmation there is a problem with the installer.

I will come back to the previous version (13020, and will try to test with it. Jean-Paul

Well spotted Xerox. I even looked there, but I was looking for NewBlue ColorFast!

You're right - fancy it showing up there (a standard PD effects folder) & named in that way.

I've submitted a support ticket to NewBlue Support to see if they can help out.

Cheers - Tony

My last post is in error. I was actually looking at the XML file for VideoEssentials 2.

What is wrong with Colorfast is that there isn't an XML file at all. This XML file would map the names of the parameters.

In addition to finding that, I can see that Video Essentials 1 thru 4 have problems with the XML files that are created during installation. It's like the programmer failed to write out the last buffer full of data. Each of the XML files is missing some data at the end of the files. I have to go back to version 120817 to find a good install of the XML files.

The XML files will have this naming convention: NewBlue_PlugIn_VideoEssentials2_ENU.xml

There are some other XML files, but those aren't the ones I'm talking about.

For what it's worth, I heard back from NewBlue.

Dear Tony,

Thank you for contacting NewBlueFX. We appreciate your interest in NewBlueFX.

Yes, some of our effects packages appear under the "Visuals" category. Thank you for letting me know about the naming issue. I have reported this. Please use the older version for now which displays correctly. And please report your findings in that forum thread. Here's a link to build 130208.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Many thanks, Xerox and Tony, to have a serious look on this problem.

Regarding the solution given by NB (coming back to 130208 version), OK, Colorfast appears now.

But:

1) It's included in the NB Art effects Pack (See picture 1), (OK, why not?)

2) Editing it is quietly impossible (See picture 2). Each parameter appears with the same name.

Tony, I have submitted a support ticket to NewBlue.

Jean-Paul, I see the same thing that you do. That is because of a missing file NewBlue forgot to create. We will have to wait for NewBlue to issue a correction.

Had the same problem, couldn't locate Colorfast. NewBlue Sales Support replied to my inquiry (February 15, 2013) with the following:

Thank you for contacting NewBlueFX. We appreciate your interest in our products. In answer to your question, after installing ColorFast you should be able to find it in the effects library in the Visual section.

I went ahead and purchased it to get the special price that was expiring that day.

But then I couldn't use it. Every slider was labeled with "IDS_Vi_Param_NewBlue_C" I emailed the same NewBlue Sales Support rep and included a screen shot of the error, but did not receive any response. Since I intended to use the Colorfast software for a project in the future, I did not pursue the issue either with the person from Sales Suport or create a support ticket with Technical Support. I hope that the Sales Support person at least forwarded my screen shot to Tech Support. So this problem has been around since February 15, 2013 for some of us. Perhaps others are not getting this error, or not many people are buying Colorfast for Powerdirector?

Hi, Rob1492,

I think you installed Newblue ColorFast built 130208, with whom I have the same issue.

There is an update to NewBlue ColorFast: built 130408. BUT, after installing it, there is no more anything in the visual section of PD11.
I contacted the support, whose answer was to test another version, between these two, built 130227.
And with the same result than with the 130408: no Colorfast at all in the visual section….

I sent the result (May 24) of this test to the Newblue Support, no answer today.

I am not sure they well understand the issue, here their first answer. As if they think it’s working with built 130208….

Hi guys

I have had this problem with Essentials I, II and III since last year (see attachment) and gave up with New Blu support. Its difficult but as I used these effects in Video Studio before I came over to Power Director I worked out which slider is which and what they do just to get by, but this is not ideal and would like to put it right when I re-install everything on a new PC I have coming in the next week or two, so I am interested to see where this thread goes and will create a support ticket with New Blu again.

I have installed them into two other video editing programs with no problem at all.

Hi, sging1,

I have too Essentials 1, 2 and 3. And no problem with them. See picture 1 and 2

But I have also essentials 4, 5 and 6. For Essentiels 4, same thing you have. See picture 3.

For Essentials 5, the install process doesnt intall it for PD11.....

And for Essentials 6, PD11 appears in the Install Process, but it doesnt appear in the visual section (as for ColorFast 13040.

I never heard back from NewBlue since submitting a support ticket.

I was able to create a NewBlue_Plugin_ColorFast_ENU.xml file with most of the controls and parameters mapped. This is the file that is suppose to be created on-the-fly when you install Colorfast.

The file goes in this folder on my machine, and the file is for English installations.

C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Shared files\PlugIn\NewBlue

I find that using Colorfast in Cyberlink is best done in keyframe mode where the controls are logically grouped together.

I heard back from NewBlue support and they gave me a link to download all three Essentials again but this time the link has PD in the address so I am assuming these ones are special ones for PD. I downloaded them last night but got called away so haven’t installed them to see if they work ok.

The point is though, the fact that these are designed for PD and not generic means NewBlue support are aware of the problem. I also pointed them to this thread.

I am happy to post the links on here if they work ok for me.

Xerox,

You may have solved the problem!

I was able to access the Colorfast controls after I downloaded and installed the XML file you created.

For those who want to try, follow Xerox's instructions, open PowerDirector, put a clip on the timeline, click on Newblue ColorFast from the Effects room and drag it to the Effects line. Then double click on it. That should bring up the Colorfast options.

I've only taken a quick look at it but this may be answer to get it working for now. Thanks Xerox!
