Using an alternative program (Ashampoo for example) to burn to Blu Ray

Apologies if I have duplicated this....my mistake.

Hi to all as a newbie,

I am sorry if this is basic but I have come unstuck and wonder if I could have some help please.

I previously burned a smaller video with no problem but the current one is 13.3 gb. It is to go on a blu ray disk as before using the same burner.

I have a Panasonic Slim External Blu-ray BD-RE Burner Player Writer DVD RW UJ-240.

Came to burn it out and got the message "this disk type not supported".

However, when used for burning (an even larger data file) with Ashampoo on my main PC, using the same disc medium, the external burner was fine.

I have been directed to this: -

" However the real challenge is when it (Power Director 10) comes time to burn a DVD or Blu-ray disk. This is where most all the video editors fail. I finally had to download a free disk build and burn program called ImgBurn. This is a great program I've used for years. I was able to burn a rewritable Blu-ray disk with ImgBurn, but not from within PowerDirector. PowerDirector complained that the disk was incompatible. But ImgBurn had no difficulty at all burning the exact same rendering"

However, as I am new to this I have the following situation

So, I want to burn the project using Ashampoo. (or ImgBurn if better)

The PDS file is in a folder called video and stands alone.

The original footage and some additional JPEGs are in another folder.

The other Main JPEG's are in my photo folders/albums.

I have imported files into Power Director, but do not know what I need to drag into Ashampoo/ImgBurn to produce the video.

I have tried to burn to a folder but get the message

THE SIZE OF THE IMPORTED FILE EXCEEDS THE AMOUNT OF AVAILABLE DISC SPACE.......The file is 13.3gb but free space is 400+ GB???

Can anyone help please?

Much appreciated and many thanks

Ray

Dear Jaime-esque,

A friend has telephoned and identified that I may have missed the produce element and have not created a file to burn.
I have edited before in Pinnacle, Magix and others but for some reason have possibly omitted a key stage.....

I am now producing the video and have saved the file, due to finish in about 3 hours.....

Perhaps once that is finished, if I get stuck again I can come back yo you for help.

VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR QUICK REPLY AND OFFER TO HELP.

Best wishes

Back again.

I went straight to create disk and here are the images....still the same message "disk type not supported"

I have tried numerous types of disk and none will burn, yet the same disks burn fine using another program and burning data.

Will not burn from Power Director?

Any help please...totally frustrated

Thanks

Ray

Hi Ray

From your screenshot it looks like you are trying to burn a Blu-Ray Disc project to a DVD. It won't fit - hence the warning

In the create disc menu select Blu-Ray Disc then the type of burn files you wish to burn to the BD.

See below:

Hi Neil...

GOT IT!!!!!!!

But it is even more silly on my part!!!!

I have been trying to burn as a 3d disk....no wonder it was not supported.

One final issue...

My final DVD is 28 gb.

On some programs such as Magix you can adjust the bitrate (I think) to allow a very slight drop in quality to fit onto the blu ray disk.

Is that feature available on Power Director please....cannot see it other than a downgrade to DVD quality etc.

I would like to keep all of the movie if possible as it is a unique holiday video.

Any ideas please would be appreciated.

Best wishes and thanks so much

Hi Ray

No probs

As for the size try changing adjusting the settings from MPEG to AVCHD.

I'm not in front of my computer at the mo but is there a 'Smart Fit' option somewhere on the Create Disc page (there is with DVDs but not sure about BD).

Or

Go to Produce and produce your project using (as you said) slighter lower bitrate settings and burning this to disc

All the best

Hi Ray

Just a couple of extra things.

Try burning your 28GB project to see if it will work/fit.

You should get an error message saying "are you sure..." just press OK.

Alternatively you can use 50GB discs too

Thanks Neil....

funnily enough, I did get that message and thought I better not push the OK.....I will give that a try first...might just do it.

Very grateful for your kind help...seems a lot to be aware of in this program.....a little more familiar with others but do like this one very much.

Thanks again for all your time and help.

Thanks Dafydd......

I really should have taken more care....shouldn't have missed the 3D issue etc.....
Still having some problems when I go to create disk as it has run for about 2 hours then said PD has stopped working.
Just reloading now and clicked to burn in 2D and have a spinning shape...

Hope it may sort out...
Best wishes

Oh dear...running into more problems.

Got disk ready to burn and all looks well.

Computer accepts command to burn, disk size is ok etc but after about 3 hours of in create disk PD says it has stopped working/crashes.

Tried this a few times now.....

Also tried to burn file to disk but states not enough room when there is hundreds of GB free?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best wishes

Ray

Should have said using i7 laptop, quad core, 8gb ram etc and turned off preview etc.

Tried a couple more times and same problem.

However, found this fix: -

The reason for the crashes was the hardware acceleration. In PD9, go to the Preferences / Hardware Acceleration, and deactivate "Enable hardware encoding". After that, I had no problems with PD9 anymore, it didnt crash anymore.

Tried that and set it going again...see what happens.

AN UPDATE.....And it's good news.

First off, many thanks for all for the kind help and assistance.

So, after countless tries at authoring and burning with my laptop (I7, quad core and 8GB ram), even putting a large fan on it to keep it cool as getting very hot...I gave up as PD kept stopping.

Redid the whole video on my desktop PC (older but same spec)

Waited in trepidation and expected PD to crash again and for me to have to burn with alternative software...NO!!!!

It worked perfect....almost 2 hours of bluray on a disk....totally delighted.

So going to use PD as main editor now as seems a great program......and people here have been so helpful.

Many thanks again.

Best wishes

Ray
