Trying to import DVD video using Pinnacle 500usb

I had some Hi8 video converted to DVD's by someone else. (Original camcorder no longer available) I am not sure what format they are in, but they will not play on a PC.
I have tried using a couple of free video converters but the one I used would take over three hours to convert 1 hour of video.
I used to use Pinnacle video editing software. I still have the 500usb converter. I plugged the AVI cables into the back of the DVD player and then through the 500 device. I had to download a new driver for it, but the only one I could find was for a Vista 64 bit system and I have W7 64bit. The computer recognizes the device, but PD11 does not.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Hi Scott61,
OK, the issue here is recognising the DVD content for you to extract and play/edit it.

1. Place the video files onto your HDD (Hard Disc Drive).
2. Download/Install a software called MediaInfo. http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
3. Start up MediaInfo.
4. Drag one of the video files into MediaInfo.
5. Display and save the MediaInfo as a text file.
6. Attach the text file to your reply: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/reply/0/28070.page

MediaInfo will display the Properties of your video file, giving us information we'd need to give our opinion on the way forward.

I finally found Nero video converter to convert the DVD video to MPEG4. I can now put this into PD11 and edit.
Thank you for the response and will keep this option in mind for another time.
