Audio Denoise taking ages to analize

Hi I Have been using the trial version of Powerdirector 11 for a few days now and currently working on a video editing project of some old dv footage which has a lot of background wind noise.I am using the audio denoise feature under fix/enhance option to try and minimise this.

The actual file i am using is an hour long dv Avi file and i have detected scenes so as to make it easier to edit.

The problem i am having is that when i select the scenes that i want to reduce the wind noise on, the time it takes to analize seems to take forever (about 1 - 2 min for a 30sec clip) Is this normal or are there any settings that i can change to make it run smoother?

My system is a i5 2500k processer with 8gb ram and 7200rpm speed hard drive, so should be up to the task

I have looked at some videos on you tube and the analizing seems to be almost instantaneous and that is on a larger clip

I am really enjoying this product at the moment, but this annoyance is really slowing me down and is putting me off of buying the full product

Any help gratefully received

Hi Paul1970 ,
This is a difficult question to answer without having the actual footage.
I was never happy with wind denoise efforts - simply it's the biggest pain for a professional sound recordists as well as us consumer level editors. I'd suggest you stick at the task and make the best job possible. Wind in the mic... a real pain to edit out.

Just sharing and not really offering a solution.

Dafydd

Edit: Added a "d" to Wind

Thanks Dafydd I agree wouldnt normally use these affects, but the footage i am editing seems to work well.

I have now after a bit more experimenting worked out that i am only having problems in dv Avi footage it works fine on other formats, ive even tried a very small avi file thinking it might have something to do with the large size of uncompressed AVI, but still having the same time issues which leads me to believe this must be a problem with the actual software. I also cannot seem to be able to open Wave editor on AVI files either but it opens fine on MPG or MP4 Files

Has anyone alse had problems with using DV AVI footage?

One method to reduce wind noise is to bass cut the audio, if you make your filter cut about 12 DB at 150 Hz you will greatly reduce the wind noise, at the cost of the low frequencies.

In WaveEditor you can use the Equalizer under adjustments to produce a bass cut.

You should be able to extract the audio from the AVI, then edit the Audio file in WaveEditor.

In Powerdirector, if you right click the AVI > Extract Audio in the Media Library. You get a WAV file.

You can the edit the WAV in WaveEditor.

Hi Carl Thanks again for the reply

I have just tried what you have suggested and managed to separate the video form audio, however Wave editor will still not open, even when just highlighting the audio only. Power Director definitely seems to have a problem with my DV footage

Did you try the audio WAV in the standalone WaveEditor?
