Using a PiP profile on a different object - Is it possible?

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way of cloning the same PiP effects over a new image or object, and then tune it accordingly from there.

I have tried everything so far, but after working hard on a single image and saving the profile, I expected to be able to re-utilize the latter, albeit with no success.

I'd like to know if there is a way to do this and I'm failing to see it; having to otherwise work on every single new image with all those effects would be a real pain.

Thank you.

Hi thebeddu80,
Yes, a real pain to undertake and causing an editor to carry out in some cases a lot of work.

I have attached an image of a work-around that may or might not work for you. It wouldn't be too difficult to replace a video either.

Use a text editor (like NotePad) to alter the "ALIAS" name within the xml file the PinP folder.

Here I have altered the Alias to 003test from the 123test shown in the images. The Copy PinP folder name can remain unchanged. (leave as Copy xxx). The new name for the PiP will display in the PiP Library.

Yes, I thought the same, and tested something similar a while back. Perhaps as I may have gone about it a bit differently, and even though it did indeed work, it was still a bit of a clumsy workaround. For me anyway.
And it only works with Images and not with Video (as far as I can tell).

But as a re-naming hack does work, then one would think that a direct way / option could be added and would be possible in PIP Designer.
And it sure would be great if CL could someday incorporate such a... Save All Custom Key Framed PIP Parameters To Template option (e.g. Motion, Scale, Rotation, Opacity, etc.), into PIP Designer. And also in the Magic Motion and Video Crop modules. So that our custom created parameters could be easily be saved, accessed, and thus easily be re-applied to any other introduced bits of media.

I would have added a bit more to my first post had I not gone out...
a) it's a clumsy way to make a change
b) It works but ideally changes to the script would have been a better option.

Regarding adding a video using the "same" method or route (not really the "same". I have altered many fixed presets in PDR over the years. I'm sure you are aware of that. I just tend not to make all of them known to members of the forum. I'm not keen to be dragged into providing non-standard fixes. I would rather pass on my knowledge so changes can be made to PDR in the next release.

Thank you Dafydd, I will try out your tutorial as soon as I have a new video in the works.
I'll have to try and keep the images the same sizes so to keep the tuning at a minimum, as PiP and I don't go hand in hand when it comes to symmetry standards

It's a relatively simple work-around for me (I'm used to have to fiddle with these things), but I have to agree with Craston on that it is rather surprising CL hasn't thought of this as an inside function yet.

I mean, it's a simple work-around, but still a work-around; having to go through the files instead of doing it in one click from the PiP!

Anyway, I'll use this method until such a feature is implemented (hopefully, soon).

Thank you so much.

Yep, that’s the rub. If you’re going to substitute images, by hacking and substituting file address/names/aliases, you kind of have to first ensure that they are all pre-set as close as possible to the first original’s resolution. Otherwise, issues of “drifting” may occur. Which can of course be corrected individually.
But again, the hack does work fine. There’s just sometimes a little pre-production work needed, to make it all work seamlessly with multiple images.

And yes, Dafydd is right. Images and Video are indeed two different things with respect to their application in PIP Designer.
Because a Video file can not be saved as a Motion Object. Thus custom created PIP parameters for video clips, are not at all available to be saved via the Save As function in PIP Designer.

But let’s hope that CL will see the wisdom and value of adding a “save all custom parameters” option to the next version of PD.
In the mean time, there is the workaround, if one is in a pinch.
