Idea: PowerDirector for Gamers
[Post New]
Hi!

I have an idea for a lightweight version of PowerDirector who I think would sell really well. One really large part of YouTube is the gaming and gameplay-videos. Today many people upload crappy Windows Movie-maker edited videos or spend a long time in illegal versions of Sony Vegas to edit just a little. There really is not a perfect program to edit our movies in!

PowerDirector is by far the fastest program when it comes to render the clip but editing can at times be a bit slow, especially as it scans the clips every time we hightlight them to see what specific feature (Magic Movie Wizard, Magic Fix, Magic Style, Magic Music and all those).

Removing some features of PowerDirector to make it a fast, easy and streamed editor and then making it available on Steam as THE editor for gameplays would sure make a lot of us happy as many of us make clips every day.

Looking at PowerDirector 11 Ultra for comparison below:

Features gamers DON'T need:
-Easy Editor
-Slideshow Creator
-Any of the wizards (Magic Movie Wizard, Magic Fix, Magic Style, Magic Music and such)
-Content Aware Editing
-Continuious thumbnails
-3D editing of any sort
-PiP Objects
-Chapter Room
-Particle Room
-Create Disc

Important features gamers DO need (some important, some just for fun) :
-Fast rendering (who you're famous for)
-Chroma Key
-Title Room
-Transition Room
-The Keyframe items
-Audio Mixing Room
-Voice Over Recording Room
-Subtitle Room

Also, the whole Produce-tab could easily be exchanged to something way simplier. Some like to be able to upload to YouTube directly from the program but I think most actually save the movies and upload manually, thus being able to not having to go through another program and we can use the advanced settings on YouTube (such as Claim, Thumbnails and more).

So, all we need from the Produce-tab is a YouTube upload (for those who choose that) and a couple of fast-rendered formats in 720p and 1080p (with a few different quality-choise settings maybe) who is optimized for YouTube.

Estamated price? Well, looking at how the other products range today, how about USD 25-30? That is in a range who even the chepiest of gamers can afford and feel good about himself for actually paying for something for once. Hahaha! (Btw, yes, I've bought PD myself since version 9 to 11.)

The most important thing is to get it on Steam so that gamers will find it and have easy access to it. Then it would sell crazy fast, I'm sure.

So, what do you say crew? If anyone is actually visiting the forums. And what do you other think, any other gamers who think this would be awesome? I've talked with other gamers on Skype about this idea and just about everyone thinks it would be great.

Too bad Cyberlink does not read these forums....

Did you send it to them as a suggestion? __________________________________________

No, it seems every time I try to contact them I get auto-replies only asking for stuff I often already answered earlier. I kinda hoped the forums would be a way to reach a real person on Cyberlink.

Thanks D, you rock! Really great of you to keep me posted.
I think someone told me that Cyberlink had a booth on one of the bigger gaming-conventions there is, PAX, last year so hopefully they feel that this is something worth looking into.

Hi SweDuck75,
While I'm not a gamer, one of my PC's is certainly optimize for such a role, I certainly have been behind the scenes pushing CL in "your direction". Any further ideas and thoughts, from your gamer (video editor needs) prospective, will certainly be handed on to the right people.

I think I've gotten the most of them in my first post. Talked to a couple of other YouTube-gamers for an hour now and we feel we've covered most of it. Manual color correction is important too as many games at times need a bit of tinkering to look better after we've recordet them. I myself find that PD usually do a good job automatically already, it's just stupid YouTube who makes the image worse. Hahaha!

Many use Vegas today and when trying PD they find it really slow and laggy, and it's kinda true. Editing (and I have 16GB RAM) is way slower than many other programs. This is probably 'cause of the Wizards analyzing the clips everytime we click on them in the timeline. Streamlining PD for Gamers and removing those features to be a more straight-forward editing would rid of that problem. I've had PD for years and never once used any of those features.

It would be awesome if CL went for it since there's no other software who's made for gamingvideos today so they would be alone, not having to share the market with anyone. Following in the steps of PewDiePie (soon 7 million subscribers on YouTube and a crazy 1 464 923 811 views) and many other gamers, there's plenty of potential customers.

Great idea SweDuck! I think that the normal powerdirector is a bit too complicated for me and there´s also alot of functions that I don´t need. So this would be great!
