How to identify a corrupt file or conflict in a large production
[Post New]
When I try to go to create disc in a large production of mine, PD crashes. Poof & it's gone. I suspect there's a corrupt file or maybe one that causes a conflict of some kind. I've tried burning to a folder, but it crashes just like trying to burn to a dvd. Is there some way to identify what's causing the problem. Process of elimination is out of the question, because there are hundreds of pics, videos, transitions, PiPs, music, effects, etc. Win 10 Home 64-bit

Always a difficult one.

I think my approach would be to check if the production renders to a file format. If it does and all is OK then the problem lies in the create disc side.

If so I would try without any menus etc - ie as close to a simple file as possible. If that works, well it points to the menu side etc.

If it doesn't work then I'm not sure what next.

If the file production fails then I think you are into a process of elimination.

I think I would pack the project, reopen, save a copy, open the copy and then start eliminating. If you have multiple tracks, maybe start by deleting one track at a time, using a quick and dirty approach, and see if the problem goes.

Altenatively, use the more scientific method of deleting the front (or back) half of the project, testing, if the problem goes it was in the deleted half, if not it's in the remaining half. Delete half again, repeat ad infinitum.

If the project is very large, maybe try working with smaller sub-projects and combining them once produced and then burning to disc?

Someone else may have other methods.

Cheers

When editing a long project, I save the project with a different name as I go along. Save as xxx1, save as xxx2 etc.

Also I edit the video sequence first, the make a file, in the same format. With PD11 that will maintain the original video quality. Then do it again after adding titles, transitions etc.

So if things get unglued, you can always go back.

This could help you in the future.
