Video sticks in preview

Hope someone can help? A video I have changed the music on (for copyright purposes) sticks at one point while playing in preview. I have included two screenshots: one of the video and audio (speech and music) and one where the video sticks in preview.

Any/all help appreciated
Graham

Hi Graham,

Not sure at all I can contribute to solutions here, but the first things that struck me are:
- did the video play ok before you "changed" the music?
- what did you "change" it from and to ? (formats/tool)
- how is your preview window set?

Try to select the audio in the timeline, click the button "Edit Audio" WaveEditor open, close saving.
In many cases solves errors of audio on the timeline.

Thank you both very much for your replies:

Nina: I am building a website for someone who wants this video included. I have had to change the music due to copyright. I have used Magic Music from PD.

Not sure what you mean regarding the 'preview' window set?

Playsound: I will try your suggestion, thank you.

Many thanks again

Are you playing "movie" and not "clip"?

Sometimes changing preview quality fix stutter/halt.

Thank you Nina.

I am playing in 'movie' mode, but, if I change the preview quality (no audio) the video does not stick then?

Thank you
Graham

You just have to try, Graham.
Have you posted the "famous" DxDiag of you computer somewhere here?
(http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24771.page part B)

What format is your video? (.mp4 / wmv / mts/ avi/ mov.....)
Just so members can possibly have a view of what you are working with
and how your computer is dealing with PD.
Are you using any effects?
Is the video playing ok without the audio in the timeline?

Many questions, but perhaps answers to them might help people here help!

Just something.

The original file was a wmv but is now a flv.
The PC deals with PD great: i7CPU, 12gig RAM, 2gig Graphics Card.

No effects although I did add a Title and a Ending screen.

The video seems to play OK without the audio. I have a small spoken intro and then it goes onto the music.

Thank again
Graham

Hi Graham,

I don't think I ever edited an flv.
So I tried it just now.
I put a short flv - with audio - in the timeline, unlinked and deleted the audio.
Brought in 3 other audio-clips; 2 wav's and 1 mp3.
All played fine.
Put several effects on, New Blue and others, played fine.
Different preview qualities; played fine.
Well, there we are.
Afraid I am out of ideas, Graham.

Nina

Edit :I wonder; have you tried an audio other than Magic Music?

Hello again Nina,

>>Edit :I wonder; have you tried an audio other than Magic Music?<<

I used the MM audio because the original used copyright music and I had to delete this. Not sure if I have any other non-copyright music on the PC.

To have a little piece to try, I have attached 43 sec of an .mp3 I have made,
so no copyright matters!
Just try it.
I know many want to use .wav, but too big to attach.
If this works, maybe you should consider buying a piece of music.
Plenty of sites for that, more and less expensive.
That is, if nobody else here can give you more help.

I can only tell you as a last thing what I would try in the same situation
before giving up:

- convert the .flv to another format - or – if I still have the original .wmv I would
have tried using that file and later convert to .flv (if that’s the format you need)
- I would probably also have tried starting over in a new project (you never know)
- If the frames where it stops are the only place it stops, I would consider cutting them
- I would use wav files

wish you luck,
Nina

Hi Graham -

With Nina's guidance, you've been battling away with this issue. From what you've said, I can't see any reason why the video ought to be sticking at a particular point.

From the screenshots you posted, it seems like the glitch occurs as one audio clip stops & the other starts. Are they both SmartSound (MagicMusic) clips? or is the first one some other audio clip?

I can't understand why the suggestions Nina has made haven't helped resolve the issue. They're all the things I would have tried. Maybe this suggestion will help:

1. Start a new project.
2. Import the original WMV file - insert it in the timeline - unlink the audio & remove it (leaving the video)
3. Import & insert your audio clips where you want them
- play preview to see if sticking is still present... if not, just produce!
4. If it's still sticking, disable the video track & produce the audio as a complete file (use WAV or WMA) - image below
5. Replace the audio clips with the produced file (WAV or WMA)
6. Enable the video track again
- play preview to see if sticking is still present... if not, just produce!

I really cannot see what's causing the problem. That's just what I'd try.

Cheers - Tony
