Hello,

I'm just starting with PowerDirector v11 and I've a question about scene-detection during capture resulting in blocky AVI-files.

I'm capturing from miniDV (Sony DCR-TRV80) and selected scene-detection in settings and the scene's are seperately converted into AVI-files.
When I preview the AVI-file with a program other then PD11 (for example Quick Time), the video looks blocky.
However, the final result on DVD (created with PD11) looks fine to me.
I also used another program to review the AVI-file (other then QuickTime) and I noticed that there are some differences between them.

My question is:
Do other people also have this "problem"? Because I would like to save the AVI-files as a back up.

Thank you in advance.
Witk kind regards,

Paul

You can look at the properties of your AVI file that was created by Powerdirector.

How a video looks on different players depends on the Codec used in that player.

Does your Mini-DV camera have its own software for transferring video to the computer?
If so try that software. I would think that the camera software would do the best job of transferring video from the camera to the computer.

Good idea.

I cannot find the software (I bought the camera about 10 years ago) but will probably be able to download it.
And I will check the properties of the AVI-file.

With kind regards,

Paul

What is the brand and model number of the camera?

You may be able to find and download the camera software from the internet. Of course if you can find the original software, that would be best.

Go to the Quicktime Player Preferences and make sure that "Use high quality video setting when available" is selected. If it is not selected, playback quality will be fair to poor. Gateway DX4380, AMD A8-5500 Quad Core 3.2GHz with ATI Radeon HD 7560D; 16GB RAM; 1 TB SATA 7200 RPM; Windows 8 Pro 64-bit; PDR11, PDVD12.
