Change time display mode from FPS to Hundredths of a second

Hey guys

I am a total rook. I am doing a slide show with music and to get the timing exact, I need to cause transitions to occur at an exact point measured in hundredths of a second instead of FPS. How to I change this?

Thanks a ton!

PD has timelines at 25,30,50 and 60 fps (set in preferences) and can be expanded to frame level, with the scrubber moving a frame at a time.

25 fps = 0.04 secs
60 fps = 0.016666 secs

As far as I am aware there is no way to display the position in time only, just min:secs:frame.

Cheers
Adrian

Thanks Adrian. I cannot seem to find a place to change this within preference from within a project...

Alt-C bring up preferences (or Edit>Preferences, or the gear icon on the top most tab) the General section has the TV format which sets the timeline.

Hi Jaycw7 -

Can you tell us some more detail about your slideshow timing? Are you matching transitions to the beat?

There are probably quite simple ways to do this without relying on the timeline marks. There are also things you can do to simplify the maths involved in syncing transitions with music.

Cheers - Tony

Hey Tony
Sorry, didn't see that you'd replied until now. I am trying to time transitions with music yes. Thanks for your reply

Would either of you guys know where to buy/download title sets/lower thirds?

So - you've analysed the beat of the music? i.e.beats per minute

and you're matching the image duration & transitions to that. Yes?

A piece of free software I use for that is MixMeister BPM Analyser
http://download.cnet.com/MixMeister-BPM-Analyzer/3000-2169_4-10290906.html

Once I determine the BPM, I usually give it a little tweak. Example - one piece I used was 123.3 bpm. I dropped it into Audacity (also free) & slowed it down (slightly) to 120bpm.

So - 120 beats in 60 seconds. 2 beats per second. So - I set the image durations at either 1, 2, 4 or 8 seconds. Easy to calculate & divide. No mucking around with milliseconds!

I used the process above to make this http://youtu.be/bWhBF907uY8

Title sets & lower thirds? Hard to say because it depends what sort of thing you're after...
DirectorZone has some http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/search-action.do?searchType=creation&keyword=lower+third&x=0&y=0#ALL_-1_score_0_ALL_WORLDWIDE_thumb_1

Also http://movietools.info/

Making your own lower thirds is easy too. Here's BarryTheCrab's toot about it http://youtu.be/S9UxBKs9oi8

Hi Jay

Welcome to the forum

Here's a Toot from the PDtoot team on lower thirds.

You can use almost any image to do this and you can add effects from the Effect Room to the image.

Also you can add a Transitions to the start and end to create simple movement like the Slide(s) in and out or the Fade

Happy editing

Edit: Toot removed! Tony beat me
