Should I upgrade?

I have Powerdirector 9 ultra and have recently bought a new PC (see dxdiag file). My new computer has windows 8 and I have been having A LOT of trouble with the program. Nearly everytime I open it the error message "Powerdirector has stopped working" comes up and closes the program. I have uninstalled and reinstalled more time than I can count but it still won't run smoothly. The weird thing is it seems to run better without the latest patch. Before I installed the patch I produced a 5 minute clip as a .mov file and it was over 3gb when it finished. After I installed the patch the same clip produced as a .mov file was only 500mb? It is impossible that it is lossless at 500mb because it is 1080p footage I'm editing.

Basically my question is, do you think I should upgrade to powerdirector 11? I would prefer not to, and I am worried that the same thing will happen with the upgrade version. Has anyone had any issues running it on windows 8? I am very frustrated by all of this as I bought a powerful PC to edit my HD footage and it has driven me nuts since I got it.

Any advice and help will be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Consider this, I do not think PD9 is 64-bit, so you would get an immediate improvement right there. It would make better use of the multi-core CPU and memory. If it does not help you have 30-days to request a refund, or you can even download the trial. It will install along side PD11. __________________________________

G'day Dreece from Adelaide -

What you observed when producing your .MOV file just doesn't make sense... unless you were using a very different .MOV profile. I've heard of various patches having unwanted side effects, but never anything like that.

My view is that PD11 is a vastly improved piece of software - it's moved on a long way since PD9. PD11 is compatible with Windows 8. Not surprisingly, PD9 doesn't appear on CL's Win8 compatibility list http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/window8-updates-center/enu/products.jsp

Your hesitation about having the same problems with PD11 are probably unfounded. I'd say it's a small investment for a vast improvement!

Cheers - Tony

I always a rule of thumb that never run an update unless something is not working. In your case, clearly you have a new PC and OS, you might as well upgrade to PDVD 12.

Also looks like you do not have QuickTime installed. That may help a little. Your graphics driver is only a few months old, but there is an update. If you really do not want to upgrade, try those things first. __________________________________

CyberLink did many works in this version, you should upgrade it.
I upgrade every year!
