SmarSound files - PD11... When I look at the available choices of SmartSound clips in PD11 versus PD10, it seems that the number of available clips has SIGNIFICANTLY diminished. Where before I found several clips in each supplied "Free" category in SS, now I find only one clip in each category.

So, did I just pay $90 for an "upgrade" which is actually a "downgrade" in this category?

My reason for upgrading to PD11, was that I could not open a PDS file for which I have about 150+ hours worth of editing. PD11 will not open the file either. If I try to open the last saved PDS file, the system hangs and the file will not open. If I attempt to open a backup copy of the same file, progress continues to about 79%, whereupon I get a message on the screen that says: "Insert the Full Spectrum disk..." The fact that I can't open the saved file which contains a "Movie Logo" SmartSound clip, suspiciously points to the reduced content in SmartSound. (i.e. - it can't find the file it needs).

I have a ticket submitted and the response given was to unload PD11 (which I did) and load another updated version: http://isales.gocyberlink.com/download/CS_Dept/PowerDirector/11/PDR11_UpgradeToUtm_2215_GM3_VDE120918-04_R5.exe

So, once again - a ton of editing - a corrupt file - or one that I can't open.

That sounds like you failed to install the TWO contents files.

The download version is Three files, The program and two contents files all three files must be installed.

The only downloaded files came from the only link that was sent to me by Cyberlink help. Originally I loaded all the files listed in the upgrade, but the PDS file in question still did not load. I guess I need to wait for the friendly help folks at Cyberlink to tell me where I went wrong. It appears I followed their instructions.

If the link sent to you was a FTP link, there were probably all the files in a Folder. If you only downloaded one file that is where you failed to get the whole program.

The link was a URL: http://isales.gocyberlink.com/download/CS_Dept/PowerDirector/11/PDR11_UpgradeToUtm_2215_GM3_VDE120918-04_R5.exe

After going to the SmartSound web site and filing a help request, the folks at SmartSound sent me a link to download the sound clips that originally came with PowerDirector versions back to 8, 9, & 10. I can now at least open the previously un-openable PDS file.

One of the problems I now also see is that PD11 text, PIP, and particle files are missing, so the most recent video I've created with PD11 now is no longer good.

It would definitely seem that the software load is bunk.

Allmoto -

So - the SmartSound issue is resolved now? What you described sounds very odd, because SS files from previous versions would have remained on your system.

Truly, the software isn't bunk. What Carl has suggested is correct. The missing files are the result of not having installed the 2 contents packs.

Forum members cannot access the link you posted, because it needs a user name & password. Perhaps you could go to the download location & take a screenshot.

Do you still have all your PiP objects, titles, menus etc from PD10?

Cheers - Tony

Even after loading all the files from SmartSound, I do not have all the PIP, text, DVD menus, etc., files that came with PD11. I have attached the screen dump. I did notice there is one Cyberlink entry there that appears rather "blank." I could not delete it with Control Panel when I unloaded and re-loaded PD11.

I chose the download method to obtain PD11, but I can't help but think it would have been a better experience had I simply requested a disk.

Hi Allmoto,
Thank you for the Control Panel image. You do not appear to have any of the Content Packs for PowerDirector 11 installed. It is the content packs which will provide the missing information.

Did you download the 2x Content Packs?
Content Pack Essential
Content Pack Premium
Please show/screenshot of the files you have downloaded. Not a problem if you haven't, it can be arranged for you to get them again.

The CP/PowerDirector blank entry is likely to be a remnant of a bod uninstall/reinstall and may be removable via the registry.

Thank you for the information you provided via PM, I'll respond to that next.

Dafydd, The following is an excerpt from the message I received from Cyblerlink. Originally, as I mentioned, I purchased the downloadable version of PD11 and downloaded all of the files succesively as listed in their download page. As also previously mentioned, the PD10 project I was having trouble with, still would not load. Upon further examination, I noticed that SmartSound clips while downloaded, had significantly reduced content in each category of music - MUCH less than I had previously with PD10. When attempting to load the project in PD11, the system was looking for missing files that were inserted in PD10, that now the software did not have.

After that, the following instructions were to load yet another version of software, granted to me by Cyberlink help, with a new CD key. I've blanked that CD key out for security reasons.

After not receiving a solution to the problem, I popped over to the SmartSound web site and filled out a help request. I received two quick responses. The first of which was to download the music content that came with PD8 through PD10. That helped, but other files contained in the "Core" disk were still missing, so the SmartSound folks gave me yet another link to download those files.

The content you now see on my Control Panel screen (sent in my previous response) is a result of all these file downloads.

I have removed/edited the access passwords, should not have been posted.

CLCleaner does not remove a program, just fools the Control Panel/windows and allows you to reinstall a program and overwrite the previous corrupt entries. I was aware of the earlier forum content and issue. The Control Panel image you provided, did not show the Content Packs.

I'll wait for CL to get back to me, I have asked them to contact you.

Dafydd

One question perhaps you might be able to answer (...and CB has not responded to me yet)

If you look in PD11 smart sound files, do you see the same number or more files within each music category as was present in PD10? I ask because as I mentioned, I went through each load link after purchase and what I wound up with was far less than before the PD11 load.

Tony, I wasn't indicating that the software was bunk, just perhaps the install.

That's OK - you're allowed to say whatever you want! I just misread your statement. No problem.

I can't really help with your installation issue, because I've never installed an upgrade version... so I don't know what impact that might have on the programs list in the Control Panel. In fact, quite often I'm mystified by what gets installed where with PowerDirector.

Now - my PC's a bit of a dog's breakfast because I have PD9, PD10 & PD Ultimate Suite all installed (and running fine). When I look at my Programs listing in Control Panel, there is no evidence of the Essential & Premium Contents packs. It's probably because they were installed as part of the Ultimate Suite (PowerDirector11, AudioDirector, ColorDirector & PhotoDirector4 don't appear separately).

On the SmartSound question, my circumstance is different too. I have purchased about 50 SS albums over the years, so my SS library is - well - loaded. I can tell you that whenever I install a new version of PD (as you've done) NO SmartSound music files are removed.

PD10 came supplied with the "Core Foundations" album - details here http://www.smartsound.com/royalty-free-music/Core+Foundations PD11 has the same.

Hope that helps, rather than confuses the issue.

So - you DID install the two Contents packs you downloaded?

Cheers - Tony

Thanks Tony... Yes I performed the install operation, but unless there is content missing from the packages found at the links that Cyberlink sent, I must have done something wrong.

Now I'm feeling like I'm caught in the middle. I spent about 30 useless minutes on the phone trying to explain to the phone support person that there were obviously missing files and that the software load must not be correct. The upshot of that conversation was that the guy said he'd send an e-mail with a request for basically what amounts to information I've already sent. That was about an hour or more ago, and I've not received that request e-mail from him. I guess I know now to avoid paying money for services that don't live up to expectations. It seems in this case if they can't find a prescription in a help-line book somewhere that good old-fashioned sleuthing help just isn't possible. I can see that I'm missing files, and they could too if they'd only take a look.

Since I've installed an additional (advanced?) version of PD11 per the regular online help instructions, I wonder now about the sanity of uninstalling PD11 - Since I've saved my 150+ hour project a number of times with that newer version. If I reverted back to the online purchase PD11 upgrade and re-installed the software, I am leary that the project file would potentially never load.

I guess it's a waiting game now.
