Hi there, I know that this problem has been posted many times before but I have searched through all similar threads and no one else seems to be having the same problem as me. I have just bought a brand new desktop with windows 8. I have attached the DXDiag file so you can see the specs.

I have had problems with the program from the moment I installed it. At first it seemed to open fine, but after I downloaded the latest patch it came up with the error message as soon as I opened the program. I worked out that quicktime can cause issues so I uninstalled it and then powerdirector seemed to work. I opened some projects and produced them as files and all seemed to be going ok.

The next time I opened the program the same error message came up. Now whenever I simply open the program I get this message. But if I open a project file the program works fine until I try to edit the timeline. I can still produce the project to files however.

This is incredibly frustrating, as I want to get on with a buildup of footage and I can't seem to work out what it wrong. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times to no avail.

When I installed it the first time, I did however try and install the latest patch before I entered the cd key. I learned that powerdirector doesn't like this and then un/reinstalled it and did it in the correct order.

If anyone could provide me with any assistance I would greatly appreciate it, I am tempted to simply upgrade to PD 11 and hope that solves the problem, but If I can save $70 then I will try to fix this problem first.

Thanks heaps!

EDIT - I am also wondering if upgrading to PD11 from PD9 and opening PD9 files in PD11 will have any compatibility issues? Do they tend to seamlessly transfer between versions or can you have trouble with opening saved projects from older versions?

First off, I read your Dxdiag.txt, Man! that is one heck of a computer, I can not imagine having 28 GB of RAM.

I doubt that any of your problems are related to the computer, the only thing I do not know is how well Powerdirector 9 works in Windows 8.

In my opinion, if Powerdirector 9 does not work on your computer, I do not think by upgrading to Powerdirector 11 would solve anything.

Unless PD 9 does not work in Wiindows 8.

From Cyberlink FAQ:
http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/product-faq-content.do?id=10792&prodId=4&prodVerId=848

Have you tried uninstalling then installing PD 9, enter the CD Key, then Run without installing any updates. Does it work at all?

On the Project files, Project files are opened with newer version Powerdirectors, But not the other way, older PD can not open a newer version PDS file.

There may be some missing pieces, but they will open.

If you are prepared to try this one more time it might be worth trying Revo Uninstaller, as I believe this cleans out the registry entries more efficiently, in case something from the original installation is persisting and affecting the new one. Also don't install the patch until you've used it a few times to see if it works ok as supplied. I have personally had experience of the latest patch causing problems with a working installation and I had to roll back to the original version.

Hi Dreece47.

I just have the same problems, trying to solve it with helps from Cyberlinks personal, but without any positive result.
In the end I would reinstall my Windows 7, and when I would make a backup I realize that there was a folder called AMD containing the drivers for my graphic cards. In that folder there is another folder called Support. There I find a folder with the last up date to the graphic cards. I run the setup and Uninstalled these drivers, and Bingo everything works again.
Hope this will helps, even it is Windows8 you are working with.
