PowerDirector 10 came pre-installed on my computer but can't get it to work. This is the first video I have tried to edit and have never used the app before this. I am using videos I have taken with my phone. They are HD videos. I am able to edit. My problem is I can't play the preview or render the video. When I play the preview it freezes 8.9 seconds in but the audio continues to play fine. Rendering stops at 4%. I am using Windows 8 on an HP pavilion g7 laptop with an AMD A8 prossesor. I have read a similar post and have tried as much as I can. I would like to upgrade to 11 but if I can't get 10 to work then don't want to waste the money.

You have a mid range Processor:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+A8-4500M+APU&id=40

That Laptop is not built for Video Editing.

The CPU is too slow.

It takes a lot more computer to do High Definition Editing. You can try Standard Def, it might work for low def videos.

I would not want to disagree with my learned colleague, but I have a much lower spec laptop and manage OK. OK I have to kill the antivirus program, network connections and a few services, but it works. OK Rendering is slow but I let it run overnight and PD10 switches the laptop off when done.

Back to your problem, You write that the PD10 was pre-installed on your machine, I would guess that it maybe a cut-down version or requires re-installing ?

Edited to add that I had a number of CyberLink promo products on my HP laptop, and I have taken them all off, mainly because they kept asking for updates, (at a cost) or advising that certain features were not availiable.

I did find an update but having problems downloading it. Everything else downloads fine but when I try to download the update for PD10 it takes my 25meg Internet and drops it down to 2-3meg and eventually drops the connection all the way. Tried downloading it 6 times and restated but still can't download it.

Could be a case of peak server loading. Not sure what part of the world you are.

Not sure where the CL servers are ?

But here in the UK, any time from 16:00 (they let the kids out of school) to late evening can kill the internet in parts of the country.

It may be a matter of just trying irregular times and see if you come up lucky ?
