PDR11 crashes almost immediately

I just bought and installed PowerDirector 11 on my Win7 64 bit System.

However i am not able to use the program because it crashes almost immediately. All i have ever seen ist the activation-window and the so called splash-screen. Most of the time the programm crashes bevor even the word "PowerDirector" is completely readable on the splash screen.

I tried everything i found in this forum.

Complete uninstall and new install - no effect.
Install newest update - no effekt.
Uninstall and new install of Quicktime - no effect.
Update of all drivers (incl. graphic card) - no effect.
Clean up the system drive - no effect.

Now i am out of ideas. Theres plenty of free space on the hardrive (about 700 GB), so this should also not be the cause.

i would really like to be able to use the program, so help please!

You said that you got the activation Window one time, Did you enter the CD Key?

If you did not enter the CD Key, You probably have to contact Cyberlink Support.
To get the program activated.

Yes i entered the CD-Key.

Several times now, because i uninstalled and installed the product several times. The activation is the only thing that works everytime. PD itself is still crashing.

I just installed klite 64bit - no change.

Try booting into safe mode and running pd from that - if it runs ok then your basic system is likely to be OK and the conflict is loaded later.

Also your BIOS is
BIOS Date: 07/23/08 17:14:32 Ver: 08.00.12

IF I have the correct mobo, details from the Asus site give the most recent version as :
Version 1302 2009.03.31 update

but you will need to confirm the exact details for your mobo before updating as BIOS updates are very specific.

Cheers
Adrian

I booted in safe mode.

After starting PowerDirector it wanted to start "RichVideo". After starting RichVideo Powerdirector crashed.

Try not loading RV if it will let you.

If not, then you can change the default registry key which defaults to "enable" on installation.

If you are not comfortable with changing registry entries do not tinker, as any mistakes may affect the operating of your system and/or other software.

Use regedit to navigate to the registry location in the .png. Note the key EnableRichVideo. The default value is 01 it needs to be changed to 00 to disable RV on startup.

If not loading RV works OK, try leaving it set at off, if PD still falls over then something else is wrong.

Worth a try??

Hmm, I don't think any of my installations have looked as thin as that, maybe others might care to comment??

My first impression is that it may not have installed correctly but I note you have installed several times.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

I have to agree that your Powerdirector is not installed correctly.

Which version do you have Powerdirector 11 itself or do you have the Creative Director Suite?

Is it a Downloaded version or is it a Boxed version?
Boxed version is a CD/DVD disk.

It you have a downloaded version, you may have to contact Cyberlink to get your Download links restored so you may download the program again. In the case of incomplete files.

I had the same problem and went through the same steps without success. I am also running Win 7 64bit and a new AMD HD 7770 graphic card which I purchased to enable OpenCL and DirectX 11. When I tried to run my old copy of Power Director 9 and it would not start. Foolishly thinking Cyberlink had corrected the problem with Power Director 11 I purchased a new copy and had the same crash at startup problems. I fixed the problem by uninstalling the AMD Catalysis program and reinstalling only the drivers. Good Luck!

Try reinstalling or updating Quick Time. This is what made my PD11ultra stop crashing when opening up the program.

I had already tried removing and reinstalling Quick Time but that didn't help. Catalysis was the problem and removing it and only installing only the video drivers allowed PD11 to run normally. My chip set is Intel X58 so I didn't need the AMD chipset drivers.
