After 9 months, suddenly rendering crashes PC

Running PD10 on an AMD FX 4100 QUAD core processor 3.60 GHz
16 GB ram
64 bit OS 7

Installed NO new software, and suddenly I'm getting a consistent crash EVERY TIME I render.

Crashes halfway, crashes more than halfway through vid production.
Uninstalled software, re-installed. Created new production from scratch. Just shuts the PC down hard.

I googled for answers and all I found was customer reviews claiming no support. I figured before I hit up support, I'd ask here.

Anybody know this problem and fix?

Thanks,
Lars

Hi, Lars, this may not be the answer you're looking for but I find that when I allow my hard drive to fill up quite a bit that my system crashes too. If you have a lot of video stored on your computer, especially in the output files of PD, I'd move all that stuff to an external drive.....or delete it if you don't really need it. See if that helps any.

Interesting. I save everything to mulitiple external HD's. All that is on my C drive is installed software. I'll try to clean it up.

Didn't work. I hope someone else has something. It seems insane this is happening to a product that was so reliable. But reading how rampant this problem is on the Internet. Frankly i'm worried I won't get support.

Sorry that didn't help. It was worth a try. I haven't had any crashing problems yet with 11 and my notebook is way inferior to yours. I consistently get a warning message that my CPU is being overworked but haven't had any crashes. I hope you can find an answer for this. Sorry again that my advice was a dead end.

I appreciate the effort. Do you know if I e-mail support, will they see this through?

It's such a strange mystery but so many others face it. I would think the plague of bad reviews on Amazon and Cnet and all that show up in google searches would motivate the company to resolve this.

I honestly have no idea if they'll respond or not. I've only contacted them a few times over the years and never had a problem. I wonder if ver.11 has solved the crashing problem? I just upgraded to 11 from 9 and haven't used it enough yet to bring out any problems. Fingers crossed.

BTW, I'm in Japan so if I have any problems I would contact customer support here. Unfortunately their support is in Japanese.

I did some searching around the forum here and found this thread

Not sure if it will help you or not, but again, never hurts to give it a shot.

Nuked that item from the registry and that didn't work either. I'm now going through each video element to see if maybe PD just doesn't like one of my elements. This is a stunning turn in ownership. I loved this product.

I've submitted a trouble ticket. I don't know when a reply will be forthcoming but this is stressful. Doesn't anyone on this forum know of this problem and solution?

Any possibility that it might be a heat problem with either your CPU or graphic card? Producing will peak the potential for this to happen. Can you monitor the CPU temperature via your motherboard display? Mine has a digital display to monitor temperature of the CPU. There are software apps available that can accomplish this monitoring of temperature of the CPU and Graphic Card.

Can you not produce anything without this crash? No matter it it is only one short clip on the timeline?

Technical support will take more time and will require you to exchange many emails and provide information that will be asked for. It may be successful but takes more time. They respond to all tickets but response varies on the amount of volume that they are dealing with.

Kevin. Thanks. I will research this. Currently I'm trying to find out if it's one of the files in the video that is corrupt. I've opened them in a different application and converted them from .mov to .mpg as I'm simply desperate to troubleshoot every possibility.

Not up on PD11 but my thoughts are :

Have you had a registry and temp file cleanup ? CCleaner
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Are there hidden temp files that being generated but cannot be over written due to permission changed .

Can you render or re-render an old PD11 file ? or does it happen on only newer imported files ? (New equipment)

Has a Win7 update caused a problem ? Can you roll back the OS or driver updates. Some updates are automatic and you have no way of telling if a manufacturer has issued an update.

Unwanted services OR Antivirus running ? Stop all unwanted services especially those that have delayed starts or decide to scan the Hdrive after a time delay.

Probably everything you have already tried but may be a nugget of gold in the above

Updated video drivers can cure a lot of issues - es[ecially if you haven't used in a while.
