I want to standardize my old footage to m2ts in PD11 (some are 8 gig Avi files)

Should I stabilize before I Produce the m2ts or stabilize after producing another codex?

Hi RAD -

What do mean by stabilise? Are you talking about fixing camera shake or something else?

If that's what you mean, I think I'd first produce the AVI files to your preferred format, using a similar profile for resolution & bitrate... then stabilise the produced file & re-produce to the exact same format/profile. Depending on your PC, there's quite a load in (a) applying effect like stabilising & (b) re-rendering long files.

That's just what I'd do - not saying it's the way to do it.

Cheers - Tony

It may be worth importing a clip & using PD11's "Content Aware Editing" to analyse it for you. I can't advise you on that because my PD stops working every time I have attempted to use it! I use a dedicated video stabiliser when I need it, anyway. Just right click on the clip in the timeline & you'll see it there.

Alternatively, just go to Fix/Enhance > Stabilzer to test what level you want to apply.

Cheers - Tony

Hi RAD, Got your PM. Couple of things that may help with the understanding of how PD works:

1) PD does not use any intermediate file formats. Eg it does not first convert DV-AVI into an "Intermediate Format" (eg Uncompressed Video) then Into the Production format (eg M2TS, MKV etc) during the editing process. What it does do (excluding when using SVRT) is during the "Produce" phase is it wll be rendering all the input streams together into a single uncompressed (i guess RGB) video stream that is then re-comressed on the fly to your format of choice (eg AVC 264 / MPEG-2 etc) in your container of choice (eg M2TS, MKV, BD Disk etc).

2) My very first PD project was also a batch DV-AVI conversion to AVC 264. I had two batches to process. One for 4:3 Material and one for the anamporphic 16:9 material. All my DV-AVI clips were already as I wanted them so I then just mass batch converted them in PD. I'm sure others will advise how to add effects like Stabilisation to the Batch process but I would recomend only do the conversion in one pass to reduce any Multi Generation Loss if you do it in too passes (eg as per Point 1). Looks great and I've never needed to go back to the original DV-AVI material.

Thanks

I do not know if I understand right, if you add the video in the timeline, right click with the mouse, and do not see the option (Edit Using Contet Aware editing ...) it is not available in the trial version.
This tool analyzes the video and shows a graph where improvements need to apply, including stabilizing video.
I do not like to use this feature, here takes much doing analize.
