Blu-ray settings for GoPro Hero3 Black video

Good afternoon everyone,
So I received my GoPro Hero3 Black the other day and took it for a spin to record some mountain biking (helmet mounted). I am still new to PD, but would like to determine what the best output option to Blu-ray will be for the source files. I currently recorded clips at 1080/60FPS settings on the GoPro. The source file is an .MP4. Ideally I would like as little conversion (rendering?) to occur from the source to the burned Blu-ray disc. In the 2D disc options it looks like my native source 1920X1080 HD options are:

MPEG-2
- HD 1920X1080/60i

H.264
- HD 1920X1080/60i
- HD 1920X1080/24p
- HD 1920X1080/60i (24 Mbps)

or to get my 60p
H.264
- HD 1280X720/60p

Given the fast nature of the video (mountain biking), my goal is to get the best possible video (i.e. clearest, smoothest), while being able to distribute the video to others (i.e. physical medium - blu-ray/DVD). My system (below) is a strong system and shouldn't have any hardware issues. What are the best settings to use for blu-ray discs? What about when I start to record at some of the higher resolutions (up to 4k - 3840X2160) or FPS (upto 240) options in the GoPro?

Thanks for any help!

I would use 1920x1080 60P , best possible format for HD with fast motion . That is now the only format Irecord and burn to BD.
Most NEW players will handle it. I use a 2 year old Samsung that works fine with 60P after a firmware update.

But it would take some extra steps since PD11 does not allow 60P disc creation, only files.

Thanks Eugen157 - what are the additional steps or process I would need to follow to get 1920X180 60p onto a Blu-ray...?

Thanks for the help.

I made several BD 60P discs using PD11. First, edit a file 1920x1080 60P H264 AVC. Then produce it as H264 AVC
with a bit rate of 28Mb.

This would be the end of it , because this file has non standard audio, however JMONE wrote a program
called FIXPD9 that will correct this problem. And yes, it is called FIXPD9 because it was written almost 2 years ago,
that is how long this error has been around.

Search this forum and you will find this program.
The file must be called PRODUCE.M2TS, it is inserted into the opened FIXPD9 program. Then FIXPD9 .bat is pushed
and following instructions, the result will be a file called OUTPUT.M2TS.

I had some problems with this, not using the file name PRODUCE.M2TS, but JMONE was kind enough to help me along.

The next program used is TsMuxer, a free program.Blu-Ray disc is checked after dragging the OUTPUT.M2TS file into it.

Before hitting the Start Muxing button a suitable location for the resulting file has to be selected.

The resulting files BDMV, CERTIFICATE, are then burned as a data disc to Blu-Ray. I use Roxio for that .

Perhaps JMONE could have a look at this and make shure I did not screw this up.

60P will not only drastically improve motion, but according to measurements made by CAMCORDERINFO, the resolution as well.

Hopefully the 2 year old non standard audio defect will be corrected as more and more people will realize the substantial advantages of 60P

Hope this will give you a overview as to what is involved. Cyberlink could of course, with a stroke of magic, make it possible to burn 60P directly.
But I hasten to add that PD11 is the only low priced editing program that does not render everything (SVRT), but only
modified parts of a file. So it is possible to produce a disc with the original PQ of the camera. I use BR only, the prices for a 25GB blank are below $1 and it is the only way to maintain the 28Mb bit rate. And of course to keep the video from being rendered in it's entirety.

Eugene

Thanks Eugen157 - I will have t play with that "process" to see how my results come out.

HDedit - I have played with the new build 2418, but have not seen any options in "Create Disc - 2D" for Blu-ray that directly allow me to burn to 1920X1080/60P?

Am I missing something?

I only see 60i

Eugene

Edit:
it allows you to make a 60P FILE, you can play that with your computer or jump through the above mentioned hoops to make a 60P BR disc.

There may be not just a PowerDirector limitation against burning Blu-ray at 1920x1080/60p, but there may also be a limitation in the Blu-ray specification itself.

The Blu-ray definition at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc says:

"High-definition video may be stored on BD-ROMs with up to 1920×1080 pixel resolution at up to 59.94 fields per second, if interlaced. Alternatively, progressive scan can go up to 1920×1080 pixel resolution at 24 frames per second, or up to 1280×720 at up to 59.94 frames per second:"

When you view the Properties of the m2ts file on your new 60P BR disc, what does it show for Resolution, Frame rate, and Frame type?

Most new BD players will handle the new format, designated AVCHD2.
In addition Sony, Panasonic and others, including my 2 year old Samsung can be made to handle AVCHD2 with firmware updates.

The PD11 will handle and output AVCHD2 in file form, it's advertising lists AVCHD2, unfortunately with non standard audio. For the time being that can be corrected with FIXDP9, written by forum member JMONE.

However I would hesitate to mail 60P discs to friends or family unless I knew they can play it.

Anyhow 60P is not that big a deal, 4K is going to be big in Las Vegas this year judging by the pre-anouncements.
And Sony has a BD player that upscales to 4K for around $200.
And PD11 jumped on the bandwagon, for the fun of it I encoded some 60P material to 2k and 4k.I was able to view the 2K but not the 4K, however Mediainfo confirmed both.

And to your question, using Mediainfo, the free software lists the output as 1920x1080 59.94 FPS, scan type PROGRESSIVE.
Same as the file output settings in PD11.
So does MS media player classic, it is so much better than the free vlc player.
