I want to use some of my own music of my computer, not the magic music as a background song over top of my video audio.
I upload it into the library(where it plays fine) BUT when I try to add it to the time line it not only doesnt play but also mutes out all the sound from the original video.
Please help

What is the file format of your music from your computer?

Powerdirector will play a limited set of audio file formats.
WAV, WMA and Some MP3. of those three WAV is the most reliable.

Not all MP3 work correctly in Powerdirector.

A screen shot of your timeline may help.

I would try converting the music to WAV. Then place the WAV on the Music Track.

Format Factory is a good file converter.

I do not know why putting your music on the timeline would mute the audio in the Videos, you can mute the video track/clips.
Just dragging the music to the music track should not affect the audio in the Video.

How about a screenshot of your Audio Mixing Room? Is that possible? The reason I wanted to see the full screenshot was to make sure you had movie selected, I couldn't tell in the first one. Looking to see if it is muted in the mixing room. Pressing F9 should get you there. Also noticed a Skype icon on toolbar, have you tried disabling it? It could be over riding sound settings..

Does the background music fail only in preview mode or even in a produced video MPG?
What improvements (Fix/Enhance or Power Tools) do you apply to your video clips?
What happens, if you produce a MPG video from your project - without the background music - first, re-load that product.MPG as a new project, and add the backround music THEN?

...just thinking of PD not liking too much 'effects' at once in a compilation.

in the First attachment below, the sound works up to 15 seconds, then both stop working.
In the second attachment that shows the improvements made- and sound works for this clip in production
The rest of the clips after this had no sound at all in both preview and production..

sound is working when speed multiplier is 0.70X

Do you have sound if the video is at normal speed?

You lose sound if you apply Video Speed. Sound will remain if the Speed is in the range of 0.5X to 2.00X. Outside that range the sound is muted.

The fact that you have sound at 0.70X indicates a Codec problem.
If you have third party CODEC package(s) installed, try removing those packages.

That I think is the PD error, incistindo usually resolve in the 2nd or 3rd Attempt.
Or save the project, close and reopen PD, reload the project, usually resolves, but I can not guarantee.
