Many of us old aspiring gurus have clips from differing codexes collected and treasured over the years in the hope that
we would be able to pass them on to our great grand children (no way would they survive our children)

PD 11 is great at getting out our premature shakes on VHS cameras, and corrects the exposure well

But Interlaced GOP ??? Etc; Iphone is Nt?? we're PAL Should we set our cameras to NT?? how doe's our old PAL translate to NT??

So what is the best way to gather clips together to use PD to stitch things together in one output?

so the question is :- If one changes Preferance on a PC from PAL to NT??; then later opens a saved PAL project
Why do I get Told off !! ?

sorry to say But MovieBox & studio 9 disappointed me many years ago; but I've kept The .AVI &.VOB s

Just a note on Vobs...they behave very poorly in PD.
For Vobs, I always convert to mpeg2 or similar. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Hi RADenham,
RE: So what is the best way to gather clips together to use PD to stitch things together in one output?

The problem with older captured tape and stored formats is one we all face if we've been movie making for a long while. For example I have 8mm film footage I captured to a micro VHS camera/tape, then captured off that to a MS avi and then rendered to the mpeg1 format. I have to revisit the 8mm film and look at the frame rate capture as the original 8mm is shot at I believe 16 fps!

The problem you have is whether the carrier avi's codec is recognized by your computer, if it isn't you need to find a codec to read the media file pronto. There isn't a set answer for you..... you have to guess what is going to be used in years to come. I'd opt for celluloid and mark it "1902 footage" then everyone will want to save it!

Oh, I didn't answer the question, sorry, mts or mpeg4, mpeg2 still has shelf life. Best if you save precious footage to multiple formats.

Tks. There is so much to learn
Am I Right in making "project profiles" such as 4x3pal25, 16x9nt30, JCV, Iphone
assembling appropriate folders;and saving each library as subject/profile; or are all libs viewable in all profiles

Tks again helps just to ask the questions

Hi RADenham,
It is the original frame size and frame rate you should concern yourself with. Retain the original quality to a useable format.

I would not strive to produce to obscure and little used formats, just save the data and duplicate it onto more than one hard drive.

Hi Dafydd
I think I got how to start

but does changing preferences effect all future and past projects or only that project in which one made the change?

I need to know where I have to take care; I've fallen flat on my face too often

till after Xmas then Tks and a merry Christmas

Preference setting for PAL or NTSC can be altered at any time. In Produce the option for either can be altered.

In Preference there is a section labeled "Confirmation" with options to check or uncheck. When checked these cause pop up dialogue boxes to appear with warnings and selections to be made.

For example: If I were to place a 30fps video into a PAL 25fps (Preference selection) Track, a warning message appears of quality degradation, with an OK or cancel option. Mixing is not recommended but many of us do that all the time. We also uncheck many of the auto warnings

Practice using the sample clips before creating a project.
