Not sure if any of this makes sense. I just thought it was easier to delete the audio completely from the clips that I wanted....but it would mean unlinking each clip manually.
I suggest that you put the clips you want to mute on one track and the clips you do not want muted on another track.
They do not have to be butted against each other.
You can mute a whole track in Powerdirector.
In PD9 and above, Click the eye on the audio section. (Disable)
In PD8, Right click > Mute Track.
