very simple question about 3d blu-ray playback

I have 2 blu-rays:

Avengers (3d)
Inception (NOT 3d)

I have 3D screen and everything set up, I have watched Avengers in 3d.

HOWEVER, when I put either of these discs, there is the 3D button available on the bottom even if the original source is not 3D. Assume that I have a blu-ray disc I don't know if it is originally 3d. I don't want to watch it with super-smart-3d-tricks but as flat 2d.

How do I know whether the original source is 3d or not? Or simply, how do I disable 2d to 3d conversion WITHOUT disabling 3d playback completely?

(Interestingly, I can disable 3d blu-ray playback but I couldn't find any option to disable 2d to 3d conversion?)

Yeah, there is the "3d scene depth" option that I can flatten completely. The interface gives no clue whether this flattens originally 3d movies or not. Besides, my screen tells me to put my 3d glasses on despite the video is completely in 2d.

Simply, I want to know if the original source is 3d or that's the super-shiny-toy-converted 3d AND disable the latter.

I want to watch the movie in 3d if and only if the original source is in 3d and in 2d if not.

How to distinguish?

Spent last 2 hours to find out rather than watching another brilliant movie, thanks to the unintuitive interface and crashes every time I change 3d settings (not to mention everything is latest version, up to date drivers, powerdvd ultra 12.0.2118a.57 etc etc)

Brilliant first impressions after paying £53.99.

How to distinguish -- look at the DVD case.

To enable/disable 3D click on the little 3D icon at the bottom of the controls. If you hover over it, it will give you a dialog.

rickcht has nothing because the poster doesn't have a Cyberlink product. He/She has nothing in more ways than one. I think this is the same poster who shows up at various times with new screen names and then just posts no help one liners.

well, I have the same Problem: My expectation was, that 3D Discs are played in 3D and 2D in 2D (and maybe optional upscaling 2D to 3D if wanted) without doing any extra action!

Just put a BR into it and play!

Is PWDVD able to recognize the source Format or do I have everytime to check this and may switch to the right mode?

This would be a very big lack in unsability!

It is my understanding that you do have to manually select the 3D button to enable playback of a 3D disc. That is what I have to do anyways.

I agree that it may not be optimal in ease of use. It does require selecting it manually and automatic 3D detection would be the best scenario. Maybe Cyberlink will add that to the next version or release a patch to correct this.

I will mention this when I meet the Cyberlink people at the CES show in Las Vegas this coming January. They expressed a desire and openness to hear about software improvements. I have a list of questions going.

Another terrific question! I am not aware of a way myself, maybe someone else knows a way. But that option should definitely be added especially if you are in a media viewing room setting. I'll add that to my list of questions. Keep them coming! Not that there are any guarantees mind you. But I will definitely present a list of ideas and improvements. After all the users are the best way to find out what is needed for features and options.

I mean imagine this scenario while seated to view a 3-D movie with drinks and popcorn in you Media viewing room or theatre;

"Excuse me everyone I have to go and enable the 3-D setting. I'll be right back!" LOL!

Not the best way to impress your friends and family when viewing the latest 3-D movie release!

A remote setting would help until an automatic 3-D detection on playback is added. You make a solid point in my opinion!
