Creating DVDs - Am I missing something here

I am a new user of Power Director 11. I am having trouble getting my head around creating menus for DVD discs/players.
I managed to create a root menu and a titles menu but my DVD player wouldn't highlight the icon to go to "scenes" so I couldn't select individual videos to watch.
What I want to do is have just one page with an icons/buttons on it which allows me to then navigate via my DVD player controller so I can individually select which video I wish to watch.
I find creating menu a rather labour intensive process. I have used Ulead StudioVideo Editor 9 which provided you with menu pages with preset buttons and set ups. Super easy to use. Does Power Director have anything like that. Again I may be missing something here.

Have you tried any of the supplied menus? Sometimes it's easiest to start with a menu that's close to what you want and proceed from there.

Did you create chapters in your project? Jerry Schwartz

No I just have 8 short videos which i captured, edited and then imported into create disc. I have tried the website for pre-made menus but at this stage haven't found anything similar to what i wanted. I'll have another look. Can I delete the root menu and just have a title menu?

So rather than editing the eight videos as one project, you made eight projects and combined them at burn time. I've never done it that way, so you'll have to wait for someone more experienced to chime in. Jerry Schwartz

Thanks for your time Jerry. Much appreciated. I might have a go making one project out of them and then inserting chapters and seeing if that gives the desired results. Cheers.

If I understand what you are saying then that's why the menus won't work if you are just burning 8 different projects onto one DVD. For the chapter menus to work I believe you have to insert the chapters in while making the project. So therefore the 8 projects would have to be combined into one to create chapters to work in the menu. Yes I was getting pretty frustrated that I couldn't get the result I wanted. Just had to change how I did things as per your advice. Can't wait for the next opportunity to edit some video. Looking forward to seeing what I can do with it. Thanks so much for your support, it was greatly appreciated. Cheers.

You can add the projects in Create Disk on the contents tab.

When you add projects to the contents tab of Create Disk, if the projects have chapters, they work also.

Adding projects in the contents tab is called making "Titles"

When you have more that one Title or Chapter, you get the Scenes Menu item on the main page. And you get Scenes pages of the titles or chapters.

Carl, are you saying that what he was trying to do should have worked? Again, I've never done this so I don't know how titles interact with menus. Jerry Schwartz

Yes I am interested also. Sorry but I have to have EVERYTHING spelled out super clear and I am not sure that's what you are saying either. W10 on Dell Desktop, 64 bit, 32GB RAM, Intel(R)Core(TM) I5- 3350P CPU, 3.10 Ghz, 1 TB HD, free space - 200 GB

Hi,
As Carl has mentioned.

Experiment:
Create two projects.

Project 1, (your own)
Add 6 chapter marks.
Save the project using Ctrl+Shift+S (File/Save project as).

Project 2.
Use the sample Nature.mpg
Add 2x Chapters.
Save the project using Ctrl+Shift+S (File/Save project as).

With Project 2 in Track 1
Go to Create Disc
Select DVD or other.
Select Content tab
See two icon options with "+" under the Content name position.
Select the right icon to import a project.
Find project 1, pds file.
Should now have two videos listed.
Move to Menu Structure, still in Content.
See the tree layout.

This is how the new imported Project will display with the Scenes marked (the chapters)

I maybe should add images.

The importation of a project file into a track differs from the above description.
Project in Create Disc = xx Chapters.
Project imported into Track = Chapters removed.

Dafydd
