Latency problem with Yeti microphone

I'm a newbie at this, so please be kind.

My setup: Windows 7 PC and Cyberlink Director Suite (current build), Blue "Yeti" microphone, Logitech 920C webcam, Sony HDR-CX260 videocam

My new Yeti USB microphone gives me a half-second of latency both through the headphones while monitoring a recording session, and through the recording software as well -- in this case, AudioDirector.

Thanks to support forums like this one (and NOT to the manufacturer's user guide, which doesn't even include Windows 7), I found the solution to the headphone lag. But input lag to the software is a mystery. By input lag I mean, I clap my hands while recording and a half-second later the needles jump in AudioDirector.

Can the problem be solved through Win 7's Control Panel settings for sound? Is it solvable at all with a USB mic?

I'm surprised that just installing the hardware gives me this show-stopping problem. Does everybody have to deal with this? Or have I made an error during installation?

Thanks for your ideas.

I too have a Yeti but haven't had an opportunity to use it with AD. When I have a bit more time I'll experiment with it and post the results.

Hello Johntechwriter and mistertee,

I'm no hardware expert. The M-Audio Producer USB mic I'm using exhibits the same latency. It's clearly not in the same league as the Yeti, but there are probably similarities with this issue.

Yours has a headphone output, like mine, which gives "zero latency" but that's before the signal is processed. With mine latency can be increased or decreased in the M-Audio Control Panel. That doesn't solve it completely.

In tracking down the problem here, I found that latency is almost unavoidable with USB mics. One useful reference I found is http://www.computer-answers.ca/2011/computer-questions/q-why-is-there-a-time-delay-when-i-am-recording-sound/

To my knowledge, there's no way to affect latency levels within AudioDirector. It would need to be minimised as much as possible at the source.

Check out the freeware ASIO4ALL low latency WDM driver project here:

Haven't used this yet but it looks interesting!
