Anyone found a player to play 2 or 4K PD produced video?

Well I can produce 2 or 4K mp4 & avc h.264 videos but none of my players will play it.

VLC will at least play the first couple of seconds before stopping. Splash Pro plays nothing and Windows Media Player only plays the audio.

Anyone had any success? My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

A couple of seconds is farther than I get before a computer crash, but when I have a difficult video, Nero Showtime often plays it, if not well. __________________________________

Thanks Jamie, my computer doesn't crash it just won't play the 2 or 4K videos.

I am in the process of uploading a 2K video to youtube to see if it can process and display the video.

Cheers

My results: 45 second video.

No crashes.....

PD11 internal player plays all but choppy (sound and video)

Windows media player... sound only
Medial Player Classic (my default player) sound only
GOM (open source) plays all but its choppy (sound and video) like the PD11 player but not as bad.......

Is there and advantage somewhere to use those formats?

Here is my 2K video on youtube.

1. It plays smoothly on youtube at "Original" resolution.

2. It also plays smoothly as does my new 4K video inside PD at full screen full resolution.

It looks as though it is a matter of being on the bleeding edge and waiting for players to catch up.

I am uploading the same video but at 4K to see how youtube handles it.

Like HD over SD, it's just a higher resolution. Of course, there are currently few, if any, monitors that display above 1080. The new resolutions would be helpful to anyone who has access to a movie theater. __________________________________

That was 2k? Great, my computer will play that one, so maybe I can survive until I get the new system. __________________________________

Hi,
Not positve on this but I believe 'Projection" type players will support the 4K resolution...haven't got one but I read somewhere searching 4K format that projection devices support the resolution. Intel i7-2600@3.4Gz Geforce 560ti-1GB Graphic accelerator, windows 7 Premium 12GB memory

Thanks Bubba for the GOM player. I downloaded it and it just barely plays the 2K video a bit choppy, but completely chokes on the 4K video.

It will be interesting to see how youtube handles the 4K video I am uploading and if I can play it back on my computer.

I think the 50mbps setting may also be a stumbling block for smooth playback.

I did produce the 2K video at 26mbps but didn't help the players, so I would say it is the resolution the players are not coded for. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Hi Robert -

When the 4K subject was first raised, & I found that PD10 was able to produce 4K files by modifying the Profile.ini, I found the same thing with SplashPro. It played nothing - even with lower bitrates.

MPC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) has NO trouble playing back 4K files produced in PD... http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpc-hc/

Cheers - Tony

Edit: Ah! Bubba reports audio only with MPC. My version is 1.5.3.3983 - plays audio & video smoothly.

OK success my 4K video uploaded to youtube works. The only problem is I will definitely need an NBN 100Mbps connection to make it viable.

Thanks Tony for the link, I had clean forgot about media Player Classic till you and Bubba mentioned it.

Well true it plays .mp4 4K beautifully but will not play AVC H.264 4K.

As long as i now have a player outside PD that will play 4K video. Just getting ready for GoPro HD3 black.

Cheers

Did a quick test :
- Source Video: 1080/50p AVC
- Encoded in PD as: 2K/50p and 4K/50p using the default templates
- PC1 Specs: i7-920 and 550Ti GPU
- PC2 Specs: i7-2600K and 660 GPU
- SW: LAV Filters for the Video Decoding and madVR for the Video Rendering in J River Media Center to a 1920x1080 monitor (eg it will have to decode then downscale the image)

Results:
- 2K : No probs
- 4K : this ones caused more issues and especially on the PC1 (weaker GPU) when using more intensive Chroma and Image scaling like Jine with anti-ringing filters. It would play on this PC when using Mitchell-Netravali but "just". PD 64 Bit-Win10 64 Bit-32GB RAM-80TB HDD
Sony FX6 - 500Mbps 4k/50p AVC-I HLG
Canon XF400 - 150Mbps 4k/50p AVC
GoPro Hero6 Black
Pana HS700-28Mbps 1080/50p AVC (High@L4.2)
Canon HV20-HDV 25Mbps 16:9 1440x1080/25p MPEG

Thanks for the extra tests Jim.

For me I will be sticking with 2K for a couple of years till my next computer upgrade. Especially when the Gopro only shoots 4K at 12fps for Pal settings. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

I can watch both your 2K and 4K videos on YT. In 1080P full screen modes, the 2K is sharper. ~Tom~

My apologies Robert - and Bubba -

I neglected to read the AVC bit! In my previous tests, I'd only produced to MPEG-4. MPC does only play the audio in 4K m2ts files.

VLC Player plays them, in a juddery kind of way on my PC! http://www.videolan.org/

Robert - maybe 4K videos might stream a little better if you drop the bitrate to 23.5MBps (the minimum without editing Profile.ini).

Cheers - Tony

Thanks Kmot, yes 1080 plays back normally.

Yes Tony I can't see myself producing my videos at 50Mbps for youtube. My normal setting is 17Mbps even when I record on my GoPro at 35Mbps.

Maybe if I ended up with an NBN connection of 100Mbps download and 35Mbps upload I might look at increasing my bitrate. My thoughts though are even 2K at 25Mbps is overkill for the Web.

You will see the difference on your 42-55 inch TV not on your 22-27 inch computer monitor. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

That I can g'tee as the vast majority will need to down scale the image anyway to fit the (at best) 1920x1080 panel that we currently buy.

Secondly, percevied resolution from normal veiwing distances mean that most of us will not even resolve 1080p at normal viewing distances. I'd much rather higher frame rates when it come to "quality"
